#48-Jimmie Johnson admitted Friday that suspended crew chief Chad Knaus erred in judgment by utilizing a device to raise the rear window of the #48 Lowe's Chevy to gain an aerodynamic advantage during Daytona 500 qualifying. "Chad is an innovator and has pushed hard on a lot of fronts, but it just isn't worth it, to be honest," Johnson said. "I think [the suspension] sent a message to all the teams. It sent a message to Chad. We've got to walk on the right side of the line." Johnson, who continued to reiterate his Daytona 500 winning car passed post-race technical inspection, is confident he will be a Nextel Cup title contender this season despite losing Knaus to a four-race suspension. "I think we've got to spin this and make it a positive for our race team," Johnson said. "And we're making our race team stronger right now by going through this. I hope it gives us what we need to win a championship."(Atlanta Journal-Constitution)(2-25-2006)

It usually takes him longer than others to see things as they really are.

I heard him say this the day AFTER he won Daytona. And, he's reiterated it several times this week. It still amazes me that everyone is still harping on this and NOT the actions of Tony Stewart doing the exact OPPOSITE on the track to what he stated after the finish of the Bud Shootout. I guess intentionally trying to take someone out on the race track and ADMITTING he had done it after the race is just fine with you folks.

I didn't get that either. I heard NASCAR inspected Johnson's car after the Daytona 500 for 3 hours.

You're right, Tony still hasn't talked to Matt, but he still had time to bag on the Shrub.
Tony needs to own up, too, and stop being a hypocrite.

Hmmmm, I can just imagine the furor if Jimmie had pulled a Tony. There sure are a lot of 48 haters out there. I hope he doesn't finish well in Vegas because some posters may jump out a window or something. Poor Jimmie, he just can't catch a break... :)

JJ does seem to attract the 'hate' that no matter what he does he gets blamed/criticized for something...

Oh well...the burden of being a great driver on a great team... :)

I am glad to say 48 finished well again this week.. im sure hes gonna be top 10 all season, even if his crew chief doesn't go too far.. but i heard he made these comments after the 500, sure not right after.. i mean he did kinda win and that would put a lot of other stuff out of ones mind..
