Johnson Happy with 2nd or worse?

The heads on Nascar Live suggested that Johnson would be happy to return a Talladega favour to Earnhardt by pushing him to a win on Sunday.

So, with #88 all but out of cup contention and the #48 needing a win more than he probably ever has, would Johnson be willing to settle for anything but a win if given the choice?

And that whole SI cover crap is flat out ridiculous and I'm glad that Johnson set the record straight :beerbang:

nobody in the chase will willingly settle fore 2nd.

Everyone in the Chase would be happy with 2nd. But if it's Jimmie pushing Jr on the last lap Jimmie is going to go for the win UNLESS it ends up like today's truck race where trying for the win could put you in 3rd or 4th.

If JJ is pushing, he'll get Jr out of shape to get the win. Then he'll say 'oops, sorry'.

As he should. Running for the Championship means you MOVE the guy in front of you out of the way. Even if it is your teammate.

I agree, and I think Jr would too, but JJ would become even more hated by Jr nation than Kyle Busch.

Eh Jr. Nation needs to realize that they'll never have the Earnhardt they want in Jr. The only driver who comes closes to Earnhardt Sr. is Kyle Busch.

Maybe. You have to remember that a lot of Jr fans are also Jimmie fans, but certainly Jr has more fans. Which we all know is because of Dale Sr. I ONLY support Jr because of his Daddy. I support Jimmie because of his record.

I think it speaks VOLUMES about how much Dale Sr was LOVED when his son was the highest paid driver last year (29 million $$$), a lot of that from merchandise sales, and a driver that has done something nobody else has ever done, win FIVE Championships in a row, made less.

I'm not sure about that. He sure caught hell from Jr nation when he used different pit strategy and split up from Jr earlier this year.

WHAT????????? That's an insult. Kyle is good but he has a lot to prove, and so far he hasn't proven it. How many Championships does he have? Oh yeah... ZERO!

If intentionally wrecking people makes you like Sr, Carl Edwards is the guy. Spun Stewart on pit road, slammed Kyle Petty into the wall, then wrecked the other RPM car. Hit Hamlin twice to wreck him at Pocono. Turned Kez in front of the field in the Daytona NW race last year, putting Jr on his roof and wrecking 11 cars. Slammed Jr's car after a race and came close to mashing his hand. Wrecked Kez at 190 and put him on his roof because he refused to let him in line. Ran into the back of Kez at Gateway, almost wrecking him. When Kez ran into him, Carl turned him into the wall at the checkered flag, wrecking another dozen cars.

Kyle gets careless, but Carl wrecks for blood again and again.

Shhhhhhh... you are not supposed to point that out since Carl is the Media's Darling. We all know he is following in the footsteps of Dale Jarrett. A carreer that is good, but not great, followed by being an announcer on TV. And I'm sure you all saw that NASCAR intro that said "Good is not great."

Dale Jarrett is a Winston Cup Champion and a three time winner of the Daytona 500. How is that not "great"?

Depends on your definition of "great" I guess. But if we go by your definition then Carl is certainly not great.

Exactly - DJ stayed in the car about 3 years too long, so people forget his earlier success.

I guess if you don't have Jimmie Johnson's stats, you aren't great.

Even I'm getting sick of the Kyle bashing. If he focused more on Cup, and less on his Truck team, he'd be a champion by now. Kyle's one of the best out there, even if he is a total jackass... but he's still got a chance to improve and win a ton more races unlike his a**hole brother.

Same with Edwards, if Carl focused on Cup a little more and a little less on Nationwide, he'd probably be en route to a second championship.
