Johnson's crew chief ejected from Daytona

I'm not the biggest fan of Jimmie Johnson, so this shouldn't be much for me to be concerned about. However, I am concerned about it because Chad just might be the next Gary Nelson. :) These guys have to work around a rule book that no one can actually get a copy of, yet they are held to strict regulations. The guy that leads the way is usually the one who gets penalized, but never gets the credit for his workmanship. I guess it's good that NASCAR tries to keep a very tight reign on these boys and their work, but they will always find a way around it, which in turn makes the sport even more expensive. Chad is for the moment, apparently the top crew chief in ways to make the cars better. All of the teams work to better their cars and they all push it to the limit. Sometimes they cross that line, but when they don't know exactly where that line is, it's hard for them to try and get close but not cross it. I would suspect that one way is to go way overboard until you are caught and then you can find out just how far you can go before they can you.

I'm cheering for Chad here, but I don't like the kid. However, I'd sure love to have him as a CC for my boys. :beerbang:

Chad knows exactly where the line is. That's why he got penalized last year also.
Unapproved parts, plain and simple, do not belong on a race car.
They had unapproved devices on the car that lowered the rear window.

well i think he's partially referring to the shocks. They werent illegial, but because they were on the outer fringes of illegial, they pulled that line a little closer to nascar to tighten it up, hence illegializing the shocks.

Rulebook that's almost impossible to get?

Come on Buckeroo, you really aren't that foolish are you? Those rulebooks are readily available to the folks who belong to NASCAR and need to know. They also receive constant updates, tech bulletins and emails informing them of any changes in the rules, new parts that have been approved, and other things of that nature.

The people in NASCAR who need to know, do.

Simple fact is that most of the fans would only be further confused if they tried to figure out what those rules meant and how to apply them.

They can and they do get a copy of the rule books....ive worked for 2 nascar teams and have seen a rule book...once a rule has been changed (which we all know happens all the time) teams are notified by NASCAR ASAP.

Everyone cheats...but if you get caught...you better be ready to accept the penalties...this was not a gray area...this was cheating plain and simple.

Although i can tell you that while i was working for Ricky Rudd i did see a rear deck lid in storage (old decklid) that had not been used...but was maybe used for reasearch..but i do know that the spoiler was connected to a wire and if you pulled the wire the spoiler went down..teams cheat....but be ready if your caught.

As for Chad being one of the best at making the cars better...yea maybe...but he doesnt have a clean slate....those guys won a race last year with a questiable shocks and i believe nascar told them not to do it again.

There's a difference betweeen finding a gray area and trying to get by with something than blatant cheating. This is a case of blatant cheating, just like Berrier getting into trouble over the fuel cell. Anyone that's blantatly cheating should get hammered for it.

I think it's too light of a sentence for cheating. The 48 car should have been impounded and the #48 should be forced to withdraw from the Daytona starting field.

Sadly..............I 'used' to be a fan of JJ's. IMHO, he now has a mouth and an attitude that at the very least match anything the Bucsh's could do or say. Jimmy's attitude has become so haughty lately. He thinks his ole poo-poo don't smell. He already thinks he is lots better than Jeff EVER was. Jimmie needs to learn some humility too, along with a couple others. Chad Knaus is and has been deliberately "puching the envelope" on his car set-ups.
I'm glad he git caught and that he will be forced to sit out the 500.
I'm thinking that there might be owner points as well as driver points assessed after the 500. HMS better take a long look at the monsters they are creating in their garages.

i race at a NASCAR sanctioned track and we get a copy of the rulebook each year when we renew our license.

It comes down to "Don't do the crime if you can't do the time". He got caught and NASCAR sat him down. I don't agree that the car should be impounded but having JJ start last, regardless of his qualified position, may have some "educational benefit". :D

If you are implying that JJ might learn how to drive on a plate track that is highly unlikely.
