Jon Wood's future

So, considering Jon Wood's relatives, it would seem like he'd be the ultimate pick to replace Ricky Rudd in a few years or so. Of course, I think Wood is still under contract to Roush but is driving a different Busch car because Roush doesn't have one for him. Does anyone know anything about this? I was thinking that because of the Roush/Yates connection and the Yates/Wood Bros. connection that that matchup might be doable. What do you all think?

BTW, I'm impressed with Wood this year, I wasn't expecting much, but he has really surprised me.

Woods and Roush have been "working" together for quite a few years...i think thats why Woods is under contract with Roush

I can see the headline now; "Busch gets wood, going into the safer barrier at Darlington".

wow, this thread went downhill quick. I KNOW that Wood is under contract to Roush...BUT I don't see any cars opening up there in the future besides Mark Martin, but I don't think they'll put him in there, the noise seems to point to Craven, especially with the bang up year he's having in the CTS. But what I was asking was this, BECAUSE he's under contract to Roush and there is such a big connection between those three ford teams, (RR/RYR/WBR) is it likely that Wood will end up in the 21? Or will he just stay a Busch driver forever?

It's up in the air..........Roush runs a hard bargain in his contracts. But the Woods bros have a damned good name in the cup series. My bet is that if Jon Woods does very good, then Jack will play hard nosed. If if does so-so, the Woods bros win and he will be in the 21. Who knows where he would be with Roush.........probably Busch until one of the other Roush driver's contract is up and they jump ship.

But, until you asked your real question, I had no idea what you wanting to talk about.

The Wood Brothers 21 team is really an extension team for Roush Racing. They share all there information with Roush Racing and have been using Roush chassis and engines for years. The 21 and 6 teams even switched crew cheifs back in 2001. When the time comes and Rudd leaves the 21 team Jon Wood will be in the Wood Brothers car.
