LIMA (Reuters) - Dutch citizen Joran Van der Sloot went on trial on Friday for killing a young Peruvian woman in 2010, five years to the day after a U.S. teenager vanished on the island of Aruba after spending time with him. Van der Sloot, who was also arrested but never charged in the 2005 disappearance in Aruba of 18-year-old Alabama native Natalee Holloway, has confessed to killing 21-year-old business student Stephany Flores after meeting her in a casino in Lima. His defense lawyer said on Friday he would plead guilty. ...

When will women learn you don't go home with a guy you don't know, after just meeting him? At least they got him.

What a waste. I will never understand this kind of chit.

I bet there are many others. This dude has his Daddy's money and political power on his side in Aruba and probably got away with a lot more than just killing Natalee Holloway.

^ I agree Andy.

They should put Urine Van Der Sloot's dad in jail too.

I hope they have a very painful nightmarish existence.

His Dad is dead.

His lawyer backed off the 'guilty" plea and the trial has been delayed as they requested more time for the defense.

At least the P.O.S. will not be able to kill anyone else for the next 28 years.

I am not sure if a U.S. conviction will make a difference, but if it increases his pain and misery, it is worthwhile.

I admire Beth Hollaway's tenacity and not allowing the public to forget. If she bothers the van der sloot maggot in the least than it is
a worthwhile goal.

A death certificate has been recently issued for Natalie, so who knows. Occasionally an execution can be pleasureable, this one has potential.

He'll be eligible for parole in 2038...if he is still alive. That's less than the 28 years, but who's counting in those prisons?

Thought I heard somewhere around ten years he had to serve. Wonder how he'll get along with his bunkmates. Shame if something happened to him.....

Sum ***** ain't got nothin to lose, he needs to own up to killing Natalee so the parents can get on with their lives. I would not doubt he is responsible for more murders.

Peruvian trial, Peruvian jail. I don't think they have parole.
After a little research, from ABC News... "Under Peru's penal system, Van der Sloot could become eligible for parole after serving half the sentence with good behavior, including work and study." The article also states that he is segregated from the rest of the inmates. Unconfirmed news reports, denied by penal authorities, say Van der Sloot has had a cell phone, television, a video gaming console and Internet access in his cell. A Peruvian TV station published a photo Friday it says was taken by Van der Sloot himself of his prison cell that shows a 42-inch LCD television, a Blu-ray player and an Internet modem. As in many developing nations, foreigners with money can buy superior treatment in Peru's prisons, including decent food, while the vast majority of inmates suffer overcrowding and constant peril from criminal gangs. Wouldn't it be great if they could get Joran and OJ in the same cell?
