Unfortunately, it's hard to do that when the racing has become stale and bland.

Barney Hall, and Ned were good and easy on the ears, back in the day when less than a handful would finish on the lead lap.

Barney always played up the drivers without trying to tell you how good he was himself. He didnt have to say that nascar was the best like a rote trained parakeet.
It was just intrinsic for him and his respect for the drivers and ability to tell their stories was a thing of beauty.
He was the best, just to understated and missed. I dont think anyone will ever again match the standard he set.
 
I"ll have to go back and watch some of those old races , but to me , it was like listening to a couple of really knowledgeable racers talking about racing while a race was going on.
