The news just reported that Dale Jr. will not be in the #8 next year. An agreement could not be meet on the number. Still dont know what # he will be in, Jr said he would like to drive the 81, but still unclear on what it might be. They said this was from ESPN.

I'm not surprised. Teresa probably asked for the sun, moon, and stars, plus Rick's arm and leg.

I'll root for Junior -- no matter the number

Earnhardt can't bring No. 8 with him to Hendrick

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CONCORD, N.C. (AP) -- Dale Earnhardt Jr. will not be taking his familiar No. 8 with him to Hendrick Motorsports next season.
Earnhardt is leaving Dale Earnhardt Inc. at the end of the season and had hoped to take No. 8 with him to his new team. His late grandfather, Ralph, used that number and Earnhardt picked it when he entered the Cup Series in 1999.

Although teams do not own numbers -- they are leased through NASCAR -- DEI had the first right of refusal on the No. 8, and Hendrick officials said Wednesday they were unable to reach an agreement that would have made DEI pass on choosing the number for 2008.
``We've been working hard to secure the No. 8 for Dale Jr.'s car number next season,'' said Marshall Carlson, general manager of Hendrick Motorsports.
``Obviously, he has a tremendous history with that number, and we know how important it is to his fans. Unfortunately, we couldn't reach a point where the terms made sense, and now we have to move forward with other options.''
Hendrick officials didn't reveal what number Earnhardt will use when he starts his five-year deal with the team next season. His sponsor has also not been announced, but Hendrick officials said Budweiser will not be on his car.
Earnhardt is widely recognized with his red Bud car and number, so this turn of events will give him a fresh new look next season. But having to part with his grandfather's number was difficult.
``Our hope was to carry the No. 8 with Dale Jr. to his new team, but the last proposal Hendrick Motorsports received from DEI just wasn't viable,'' said Kelley Earnhardt Elledge, his sister and business manager. ``It was a difficult decision, but all of us agreed that it was best to move in another direction,'' she said. ``There's disappointment, of course, but we look forward to working with Hendrick Motorsports on what will be a great program for Dale Jr. and his fans in 2008.''

What else can Teresa do to piss off the Jr fans?

I'll pull for Jr no matter what number he has...Teresa really is showing herself over this hole deal.

I think to go along with the new # and the new team he also needs a new crew chief. What does everyone else think?

i would highly disagree with that, i think Dale Jr and Tony Jr do a great job together.

Anyone think that Evernham and Budweiser are offering a better deal to Teresa.

oes it really matter what number goes with Budweiser? It was synonymous with the 11 car for many a year.

It would have been nice to see him get to take his number with him. But, it doesn't matter too much in the grand scheme of things.

This very reason is why I didnt get a 16 tattooed on my arm, nor am I planning on getting a 7 on my arm anytime soon either...

After reading the OP, I looked outside and guess what? The sky isn't falling.

Amazing!

As for the Earnhardt/Eury thing...I've been saying for years that the best thing for him is get away from those Eurys and if after what Eury said Sunday doesn't prove that, I don't know what does.

And I will say it again that I still think Eury Sr. ran him of gas intentionally.

IMO, they're jealous of him and his accomplishments.

I wish Dale would run the 5 out of respect to the Hendrick organization.

But I guess he's the big star, he can pave his own way with a new number. But that means that either the 5 or the 25 will be out next year. Probably the 5 (I don't see Rick pulling Papa Joe and Ricky's 25 from competition.)- which is a shame given the history of the 5.

Junior will be in the #5 or the #81 next year.

I guess that commercial was true afterall. All we need know is for him to say his new number will be 6.7 :D

I don't know. Year before last when he didn't have Eury Jr. tell me again how he did. Missed the Chase, did he? So maybe it's not the Eurys...

Agree bp,
And who is it that changed his shocks the other day and got him to finish second?????

#5,#81 or even 6.7 it doesn't matter to me I will still pull for him.
:beerbang: :beerbang: :beerbang:

I really think he should stick with the 5 since HMS already has that number but if he don't how about the #83? That would be for his Granddad and his Dad.

No 8 in '08, huh.

Jr. could have the number I (the square root of -1) for all I care. I hate that number.

I'll still be a fan of Jr. no matter what number he has.

I agree. Eury's comments were really out of line Sunday. In addition to saying he thought Dale drove the car too hard, he also made some ridiculous comment in regard to The Chase. He more or less said it didn't matter whether they got in or not. HUH?!!!!!

Thanks for the compliment.

You're welcome, if the shoe fits.

So, half the fans in Nascar are jackass? :)

And, no not half the fans. But, a large number of Lil'E fans behave questionably at the races I've been too. Don't you find it interesting that even the guys in the booth comment on how a lot of the Lil'E fans leave before the race is over if he has a DNF. Not many fans of other drivers do that. What does that say about them? Are they there to see the race or to see Lil'E?
