I'm at a loss for trying to figure out how someone can say just by looking that a axle could only last 6 more laps???

Guess that's why he gets the big bucks, huh?

I would have to wonder that they X ray the axles or something, or that there was visual fatigue, ie broken teeth or fractures or twisting of the shaft.

I've seen splines twisted, even sheared along with shaft twist but I could never say when a axle could fail with just a visual inspection. Even magnafluxing would only show cracks leading to failure.
