July 31, 1960: Fireball Roberts wins the first race at Atlanta Motor Speedway, the Dixie 300. Cotton Owens finishes second, putting two of the great racing nicknames 1-2 in the race. But they aren’t the only drivers in that race with great nicknames: Speedy Thompson finishes 12th, Possum Jones 13th, Banjo Matthews 25th, Tiny Lund 30th, Buck Baker 31st and Shorty Rollins 34th.
