June 1, 1990: Dick Trickle wins the only pole of his Cup career, at Dover for the Budweiser 500. He finishes third, behind winner Derrike Cope and Ken Schrader. Trickle starts 303 races in a career that begins in 1970. He is 60 years old when he makes his last start in 2002 in the MBNA 400, also at Dover.

I have what I would wager is the only Dick Trickle coffee mug in Canada! lol always get a few strange looks when I'm using it, (not usually coffee in it though ;) )

Most of my youth was spent around the D.I.R.T. tracks of Northern NY and Southern Ontario, but my dad always took us to the ASA shows at Cayuga Speedway, (FYI, Alan Kulwicki still owns the track record), and "The White Knight" was always a threat to win.
Although he didn't enjoy much nascar success, there is no doubt that he is one of the best short track racers, ever. I don't think he has won as many races as they say he has, but he has won a bunch of 'em.:D

Being from Upper Michigan, Dick was a treat to watch when he occasionly came to tracks in the area. Way back before he was "famous."

That was him. He had Cale put a cigarrette lighter next to the seat so he could smoke during cautions.

Many years ago, I met a friend who used to race against Trickle and he had many good stories to tell. He said that most of the time, when the racing was over, they would pull out the beer and have a good bull session at the track.

All of the places I looked had only an estimate of the number of wins for Trickle. Out of some 2,200 races, he won an estimated 1,200 of them. He won 62 in one year. But that was back when there were many races each and every week and even Richard petty raced many more than the 36 races they now have for the big series.
