For the first time in his Cup career, Earnhardt Jr. will have to compete for the All Star race. However, as he said, he's not too worried. I guess he isn't as he doesn't have to win the open...he will get more votes than anyone else. It appears that he's pretty sure of that.

Well he still does need to finish on the lead lap to get the Fan Vote. Knowing how Jr is something will happen and he will not finish on the lead lap cause of his own dumb mistake. Oh well I bet this will be probably be the biggest win in fan vote if he does get it.

Wonder what rule changes will be made if he doesn't get in?

I'm waiting for the rule change to come before even this one you don't even got to be on the lead lap and if you crash your car in the open and have the most votes you can get another car to go race it. This way Jr's spot is pretty much safe no matter what lol.

Hopefully Junior can race his way in to the All-Star race, and not have to rely on the fan vote.

But if neither happens, I can hear this song blasting through the loudspeakers on Monday at the Hendrick Motorsport's facility:

I hope he races his way in. I like him, just don't care for most of his fans.

that car he will be drivin I'm sure will be the class of the field so hopefully he can drive it to a win

Jr. is currently 4th in points. At this level of racing a little good luck is sometimes as important as a fast racecar, or the right set-up. There's no doubt that Jr. can drive. I'd like to see him have a little good luck for a while and put together a solid season.

Hey, we're not all bad! :D

Personally, I think this whole get voted in thing is BS. The Sprint Showdown qualifying race is too. Everyone has already had their chance to qualify for this race over the past year by wining a points paying event.

Eligibility rules for Sprint Cup All-Star Race:

1st criteria: Drivers who have won races in the current and preceding year. If a driver leaves a team with which he has won a race, he remains eligible (through the last race before The All-Star Race), the team does NOT
2nd criteria: Drivers who are past Sprint Cup champions in the last 10 years
3rd criteria: Drivers who have won The All-Star Race in the past 10 years
4th criteria: The winning driver of the Sprint Showdown
5th criteria: Driver who finishes 2nd in the Sprint Showdown
6th criteria: Driver voted in by the fans

I disagree. I like the Sprint Showdown being a last chance type race, a B-Main if you will. Top 2 transfer.

I do agree, however, with your assessment of the fan vote. I alwasy have thought it was crap.

My only argument on it is that it's a non points paying event ran against a limited field. I mean the best of the best aren't even starting that race. I'm not sure how that can qualify someone as being an All-Star. So..... I guess that it's a simple matter of opinion.

The Showdown usually turns out to be better than the All-Star race itself. It's actually one of the better races of the year. This year's should be the same. Look at the names not locked into the All-Star race this year.

An "All Star" race should be just that. In my opinion, it should be the top 25 vote getters from both the public and the drivers. When they changed the name, they should have changed the way the drivers get in.
