Earnhardt Jr. hoping to catch RIR official's ears

Dale Earnhardt Jr. says he likes to have an impact when he speaks about an issue he cares about.
This time, he's hoping to catch the attention of Richmond International Raceway officials, much as he did those at Texas Motor Speedway last year. Earnhardt Jr. said the best racing at RIR in the past occurred when track officials put some sealant on the racing surface. When the bottom groove of the tacky substance would wear off, drivers would move up the track to the second and third grooves that were still coated.
"The thing about Richmond now, honestly - they need to start sealing that track again," he said. "You ain't gonna have a second and third groove at Richmond if the sealer ain't up there to use. I don't know why that ain't registered in anybody's brain.
"I mean, when that track was good is when they were sealing it every year. ...You know - hello?
"[The media] needs to get on that because that track is great for second and third grooves. And it had one [Sunday], but it wasn't effective. Everyone had no choice but to run the bottom."
The last time Earnhardt Jr. commented about a track, Texas Motor Speedway repaired a bump in Turn 4 based on his complaint. Clearly, Earnhardt Jr. is hoping for a similar result this time.
"If they really want to get the racing better, I don't know what it costs to seal it - it can't be that expensive," he said, then added with a laugh. "It can't be any more expensive than the thing they did over at Texas."
