Could Carl Edwards become the next Mark Martin. I certainly hope not, not that Mark was anything bad, but I do believe that Mark will forever be known as the best NASCAR driver to have never won the title. Carl still has many more years to win a title, but he's got a good start competing with Mark.

Again, just a thought...

Too early to say. Anything can happen. I certainly thought Mark would have won one or more Championships, just didn't happen. I think a lot of people had written Tony off the Championship contender list, then we got 2011. That truly is one of the great things about NASCAR, you just never know who will be the next to rise to greatness or the next to fall into nothingness.

Check with me in 20 years......Really it could go either way.

There's the Martin case, but there are cases like Bobby Allison too.

Bobby Allison lost two titles to Waltrip in the early 80's both times with Waltrip overtaking Allison in the fall (DW was calling himself "Mr. October" then), it had to be disheartening.

But later on, Allison at 45 y/o won the championship, beating Waltrip with his old Di-Gard team. Allison at 45 is the oldest cup champ ever, prior to that year he was looking like a Martin title resume.

Given Carl's physique he has a lot of time.

Unlike Mark Martin, Carl at least has a Nationwide title and would have two if they would have allowed points this year. Mark does have 5 IROC championships, but not a NASCAR championship.

All it really takes is a guy like Jimmy Johnson to come along and win 5 titles in a row. That is a big hunk out uf the prime time in anyones career . All of the other drivers .Six years from now , would Carl still be racing at this level?

Well said. a few drivers have spent most of their career in JJ's shadow. Carl needs to relax and have confidence in his ability. Roush seemed to have the dominant cars this year, but Carl won just 1 race. That's really hard to explain.

It frustrates Jack to no end.....

There are reports that as Tony crossed the finish line first, Jack's left eye popped out and rolled across pit road.

I know, I know, that's mean. I just couldn't resist making a one eyed Jack referance.

A one eye'd Jack? Sounds like a new bobble head :growl:

With "super action eye ball pop", I think it would be a seller.

A small button would active a lever that pulls his glasses up and bam! a small eyeball pops out.

Maybe we could put a speaker on him that utters my favorite Jack quote after the Homestead race.

"I can't afford to keep losing championships"
