This just received from an internet friend:
Hi Everyone,
Thanks for all the good wished & prayers. There is power in prayer!!! Sorry this may be a little long...please bear with me...LOL.
Was a very hectic day. Wisked off to the evacuation center once we got the call (10:05 am). Dropped the puppies off at the vets, and signed into the center. Wife was at work, but called to tell her where everyone was at and volunteered to help out at the center.
About lunch time, the easterly winds quieted down, and reversed - now coming out of the west. This not only stalled the flames, on the eastern fire (Harris Fire - 25% contained) (over 75,000), but turned them back on themselves, just like last night. About the same time, firefighting air support was able to get in the air, and started dropping water from Otay Lakes and the Ocean. The westward advance was virtually stopped. Although not under control, it changed direction and air support is still in full operation. Unfortunately it did also cross into Mexico, and they are now fighting it themselves. (Our prayers are out to them as well.)
The Northern fires (Witch or Witch Creek Fire - 0% contained), unfortunately also changed directions, but doubled in size (over 200,000 acres), and is currently marching westward towards the ocean, eating anything that'll burn in it's path. Lots of firefighters & air support are working on that fire, but that area is more hilly & dangerous for aircraft, due to terrain, wind current etc.... These folks are doing such a great job, bless em one and all. Tomorrow they will have lots more support as they will have 4 C-130 aircraft (National Guard form S. Car, Col, Utah)
Anyway, about 6 pm, all evacuation orders for our city (Chula Vista) was lifted and people were able to go back to their homes. My wife had showed up, at the center, just in time to go home. We went and picked up the puppies at the vets, and came home. What a great reunion! Unfortunately not everyone was as fortunate...our hearts and prayers are out for them.
We still have a lot of ash, smoke & the air quality stinks, but we all safe. Not completely out of danger, but very confident that for us, the worst is over, for now. Oh yea, they estimate that all the current fires should be contained 100% by November 4th. Thanks again for all your well wishes & Prayers.
Hugs,
TED
A side note: The mayor of TJ, Mexico - sent 4 fire trucks & crews to help out San Diego and due to many of our electric high-power lines that were burned down in the east county, the Govenor of TJ County, Mexico, had the Mexican Power Company tie into our power grid to keep our power going. The lord works in miraculous ways....LOL.
