Just one of many Memorial Day stories

I recently visited a local VFW as a guest, my buddy wants me to join. I am in awe of those guys and what they did.

It brings tears to my eyes seeing this and thinking about what "the greatest generation" went through. For most of my life my dad would never talk about what happened during the war. It was only in the last 5 yrs or so of his life he would even talk about it. He was in New Guinea and they basically were sent in to just die because the Japanese were hidden in these "holes". Just can't think of the name at the moment. Anyway, it wasn't until they finally brought in some tanks that the guys weren't on a suicide mission, more or less. I hate to think about all they went through, in the Pacific and in Europe. I've watched Band of Brothers probably at least 10 times and I always watch again whenever it's on. I'm glad my dad could finally talk about it. I know he held things in his heart he would never tell anyone. He just couldn't talk about it since it was so horrendous. He said they were always told to save one bullet for themselves in case they were ever captured. :(

God Bless our Troops, Present and Past and all you gave for us.
