Just read this.

Not going after Saddam would be like a battered wife staying with her husband because she's too afraid of what else he might do.

I believe Tenet's comments were inappropriate, if not just in timing. We were starting to get more and more people on board. I hope this isn't too big a roadblock.

Not a roadblock for me.........I'm sort militant about crap like this!:)

I'm with you on that, DE.

But I also worry about exactly what Tenet is talking about. What if we don't have all our bases covered here, and there are sleeper cells throughout the US with the ability to do major damage? I'm hoping, at least, that we wouldn't go into Iraq if they didn't think we were ready for such repercussions.

Hopefully we can use the SF (Special Forces) to train the Iraqi opposition to do the job for us. Just like we did with the Northern Alliance in Afghanistan!

That would be the easy way out with the least loss of life among our soldiers!

Our military is prepared.......that much I'm sure of. This one won't be done by proxy like Afganistan. The problem abooja brings up is a valid concern. However, I'm also sure the administation is very much aware of the issues that Tenet brought up......my disappointment is why did he say that in a public forum? My experience in following news and politics tell me that Tenet has an agenda that he wants persued.......what it is, I have no idea. But, whenever someone as political as he suddenly "drops a bomb" (as if this was not thought of before!) there is plenty of reason to suspect a motive of some type. The administration and everyone envolved in this whole situation with Iraq has been aware of this posibility or potential from day one. Why was it made public today........ammunition for a defeat of any resolution? Sorry, I'm just suspicious of sudden "revolutions of facts" like this.

Douglas MacArthur once explained that all military disasters are explained in two words: "Too late". Too late in discerning threats, too late in countering them.

I was thinking that very same thing, DE. I don't know a whole lot about Tenet, but CIA director is a high profile job, especially given the times. Someone, somewhere could very easily have an interest in securing Tenet to help promote some agenda (anti-war = anti-Bush). It sickens me to think as much, but I know enough about politics to realize that pretty much anything goes where elections are concerned. :(

Now, I'm really going to sleep. Might still catch the last five minutes of Seinfeld. The filthy Angels game delayed it more than an hour.

Have a good night! Maybe we can continue this discussion in the morning...
