Just Sad......

Nobody ought to have a season like this

2nd worse turn-around from last year to this. A minus twenty. While one of his teammates has a plus 13. Only Johnny Benson has fared worse with a minus 22.

One top ten and 2 top 20's in 24 starts in one of the premier cars on the circuit while his teammates have gathered up 2 wins, 11 top fives, and 19 ton tens. 12 out of 24 times he has started a race this year top 20 or better and has finished 20th or worse 21 times with 5 dnf's.

If it hasn't been one thing it's been 14 others. And by the way, it's not because of the bump on the head.

What Driver we talking about here? Or Am I just really stupid?

I'm afraid you really don't want the answer to that TS.:)

I didn't know at first either...it is a shame for Steve but bad times do happen...

You had me on that one. I was thinking Bobby Labonte, but Stewart is in about the same spot as last year. Park's season has just been a nightmare. Missed the first few races, then has wrecked in most after that. No wonder Dale Jr. didn't want to admit he had a concussion.

Steve Park isn't healed from his injuries from last year! I have met him and talked to him and I didn't feel like his was operating at full song!

Its sad because Steve is a really nice guy!

I don't know if DEI has given him a fair shake! Maybe with the new crew chief next season he will turn it around!

Penzoil is one of the top sponsors out there. Maybe not on par with some of the really really big ones but ya best be believing that DEI is doing everything they can to get that car to Victory Lane.

There are at least 30 teams out there that want that sponsorship when their deal is up. Winston Cup racing does not run on friendship. Penzoil goes to the winners circle real soon or it will be checking with other teams right quick.

It is a premier car with a premier sponsor. Win or go home.

They would probably like to stay with Steve Park, but at the end of the year when Pennzoil executives try to assess whether or not their investment has been worthwhile, they are probably going to have a hard time understanding why they should stay with that team when the car crashes almost every week and is mired back in points. Park is going to need to pick up the pace soon in order to keep his ride or the sponsor.

Well, maybe this will be a good weekend for Steve and the team. He ran fastest practice time yesterday in Happy Hour and he hasn't got a bad starting spot. Keep your fingers crossed.

Was noting from last year that 7 of the top 10 spots were taken by cars starting 11th or worse. Feel kind of bad for the ones that qualified well this year. LOL

It really is a shame, I do not think Steve Park is fully recovered either. I remember watching last year before his accident, his driving style was completely different. Hopefully this new crew chief will put him back on track.

adjfan4ever,

I'd rather be one of the 3 starting in the top-10 to finish in the top-10 then one of the 7 starting worse than 11th.

I think Penzoil will stay with Steve at least through next year. The reason: They aren't getting TV time for wins but they are getting TV time because of all the coverage of Steve Park and his problems.......the Penzoil name gets put out there for consumers to see no matter where Steve winds up finishing. That will continue the rest of this year and probably the first part of next year.......but Steve will have to step up his performance next year or Penzoil will have no choice but to jump ship and move on.

BTW I see Steve improving little by little each race.....I think he will be fine by Daytona 2003.:)

I hope Steve can use the off season to regroup. He has talent, great equipment and the will to win. Now, he need time to heal. BY the time Daytona rolls around, he will be better. His new crew chief will have developed a relationship with the team and hopefully, they will all move forward.
