Kansas City's proposed Hall of fame.

i like it....but here's my problem with it...Lowes motor speedway is out in the middle of no where...thats fine...as are other race tracks...they only need a few days a year to work.

ive seen in the past that basketball arenas and baseball stadiums built in the middle of nowhere hurts them more than helps them. that really hurts walk up ticket sales....i think the hall needs to be built in a downtown/uptown area...in order to survive, the hall will need to have people come and go everyday..not just when the local track has a race.

how does that sound to other people?

Believe me when I say that it is not built in the middle of no where. The Village West entertainment and shopping district is booming. Nebraska Furnituremart, Cabelas, hotels, resturants, etc. is all with sight of the track and proposed site of the HOF. I'd guess that there thousands of people in that area every day. Hundreds of thousands during the weekend. Once the state of Kansas approves gambling we have an Indian tribe that have proposed to build a 200 million dollar casino/resort just behind the speedway.

Believe me when I say that it is not built in the middle of no where.

WHAT? KANSAS Itself is in the middle of nowhere! Yeah you might have all the regulars at that site day after day..BUT.. an exhibit like that should be WHERE THE PEOPLE ARE! The East Coast is where nearly everyone lives.. And MOST of the fans are there too. I will probably NEVER visit no matter where it is built. But to have the millions of visitors it deserves it should be built where those visitors can make a one or two day trip out of it.. To put it where it is a 4 or 5 day trip thru country with little else to offer is out of the question! If course this is my opinion, and others may differ.
I think I would lean towards North Carolina if I had a vote..

As a North Carolinian, I'm laughing my ass off at Betsy. BTW, I was born in rural Kansas and know the state very well. However, to say that Kansas City is out in the middle of nowhere is rediculous. Also, you might be cutting those people who live in California a little short, not to mention those huge fans who live in Texas. But on the other hand, you do have a few good points. Kansas City does have a lot to offer, but not much else in the line of racing other than their track. Yeah, gambling might help, but know this, just about every state in the union now has gambling and as such, it isn't the big attraction that it once was. What I like about the Charlotte location is that for the fans who will really want to go to the NASCAR HOF, there will be many, many team shops located within driving distance and if a family goes there for a weekend, they can litterally be inundated with NASCAR stuff. Plus, most of the teams have show rooms of their own and if after seeing a big exhibit about Dale Earnhardt the fan wants to see the car that he flipped at Taladega and then continued to race, all they have to do is travel about an hour to RCR's shops and they can see the real thing.

Once again, most sports have their HOF in or near the origin of the sport and while the sport of racing didn't start in Charlotte, nor did NASCAR, it is in the heart of the sport and with all the teams being headquartered not far away, it offers something that other sports don't, and that is that the fan can actually go to see the team/car/driver/owner of their vary fav, or at least, that car. And yes, I know there are some teams that aren't based in Mooresville or close by, most of the big successful ones are, and that's the biggest advantage that Charlotte has over all the other cities.

Yeah Buckaroo, and I am laughing mine off at YOU!!

You were born in Kansas and yet you call yourself a North carolinian.. What is that all about? You can not be a North Carolinian any more than if you put kittens in an oven they would be biscuits.. You are a Kansan... nothing more to be said about it. TRUE tarheals will object to you calling yourself other than what you are.

My dear sweet Betsy, I will call myself what I want and since I've lived here now for over 10 years, this is my home. If you don't like it, tough. I lived a total of 6 months in the state of Kansas and was reared in Oklahoma, which is where I say that I'm actually from. So what do you say about that? I never said that I was a Tarheel anyway. My wife was born and raised here and if you called her a Tarheel, she'd likely kick yer teeth in. I am now a North Carolinian with Sooner roots via the states of Iowa and Illinois.

Yer a pretty snooty lady, if I may call you that, aren't you? :beerbang:

That's right. You call yourself what ever state you live in. I was born in Kentucky. But moved to Tennessee and have been here for about28 years. So therefore I am from Tennessee. If I didn'twant to call myself a Tennesseean then I would move back to Kentucky.

Just thought id say hey to my fellow North Carolinian buckaroo

Have you ever heard of Branson, MO? :) 25 years ago Branson, MO was a very small town on the Missouri, Arkansas border.........and when I say small, I mean very small. A town that survived on tourists passing through as it's main source of income being Ozark arts and crafts, some crystals and a few rock stores............the tourists passed through Branson on the way to the many arts and crafts fairs that occur in the that general area each year (the War Eagle, AR fair being one of the most famous). Branson would have certainly qualified as a place in the middle of nowhere...........but look at it now! Pretty big tourist attraction that Kenny Rogers built in the middle of nowhere! :D Kansas City has a huge head start on Branson..........the HOF will do quite nicely in the near geographical center of the Continental United States.

And I claim myself an Arkansasan.......but I was born in Texas. Are you going to dispute my claim too? :)

naaawww Fergy, nothing like that.. We get em down here all the time.. Four or five years and they think they fought the Mexicans at the Alamo themselves..
As a true fact I went to school in NC and have a high School diploma from Waynesville Township High School.. I, far more than Bucko qualify as a tarheel... But I was born here and am a true Texan at heart.
Betsy

Well, then Betsy, I guess you'd have a problem with me calling myself a Texan. I was born in Tennessee, and moved to Texas 24 years ago. I will say this, YOU wouldn't be a "true Texan at heart" if it hadn't have been for us Tennesseans. :D

Styx most of the first 300 settlers did come from the south.. Very few from Tennessee. They came with a guy named Austin. He received a handsome commission for each of the settlers that he brought to what was then Mexico. I have the blood of 11 of these settlers in my veins. Believe it or not two of them were preachers.. one Baptist and one Methodist. Me and my people are Texans.. And yep you are not..
Betsy

Betsy, the "true" Texan that went to school in North Carolina. But, has SFA's blood running through her veins. Now THAT is funny!! :XXROFL:

CT I had no control over where my Daddy took me in his work. I got back here as soon as I left home.. And no not Austin's blood, but the settlers he brought with him.
Oh yeah and the fact is the adopted little brother never has left WNC.. But he never was a Texan anyway.
B.

if he pays taxes in Texas...he's a Texan....maybe not a native Texan...but a Texan...they sure as hell get his money.

I guess you need to REVISIT your Texas History. The reason that the state of Tennessee is called the "Volunteer" State, is because they volunteered to come fight at the Alamo, among other things in other places. My grandfather was a Texan, but has now passed on . Therefore, I AM a Texan too. Two can play your silly game.

Oh, and it's MAJ, please. Not Styx. ;)

Ok I did just that... I revisited and here is what I have saved for you to read:

The majority of the Old Three Hundred colonists were from the Trans-Appalachian South; the largest number were from Louisiana, followed by Alabama, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Missouri. Virtually all were originally of British ancestry. Many had been born east of the Appalachians and were part of the large westward migration of the early years of the nineteenth century. Most were farmers, and many—including the Bell, Borden, Kuykendall, McCormick, McNair, McNeel, Rabb, and Varner families—already had substantial means before they arrived.

I guess Louisianna, Alabama and Arkansas should call themselves volunteers too? I am looking for a state by state list of just how many came from where..
I did find that ALL had to swear to be Catholic. It was required. One of my ancestors named BAYS snuck in from Louisianna to preach to these settlers He was found out and the Mexicans told him to go back to Louisianna or to jail in Mexico... He went back till the war started..

Hey Betsy, I just wonder if you consider the governor of California an American? Just wondering why you are so feisty about this. Or is this just your way of entertaining yourself? And, just wondering how you consider that you far more a tarheel than me? Oh, you lived here. I see, that must make a difference. I guess I really live in Virginia next to Fergy.

I was born in Harlingen, TX..............do I have to be a Texan for the rest of my life? :( I'd almost rather be a Californian..........naaaw, maybe not that far!! :D
