Kansas Speedway Odds and Ends
• Scott Wimmer led the first Nextel Cup practice at Kansas Speedway on Friday with a lap of 30.289 seconds around the 1.5-mile track for a speed of 178.283 mph. Kurt Busch was second with a speed of 177.649 mph followed by Matt Kenseth, Carl Edwards, Mike Wallace, Robby Gordon, Mark Martin, Sterling Marlin, Greg Biffle and Joe Nemechek to round out the top-ten.
• Denny Hamlin, Busch Series driver for Joe Gibbs Racing, will make his first Nextel Cup Series start on Sunday provided he can qualify the car on time. Qualifying is scheduled for 10:40 AM/Eastern time on Saturday.
• Scott Roggs, driver of the Valvoline No. 10 Chevrolet, wrecked his primary car in the first practice session at Kansas Speedway on Friday. The team pulled the backup car out to get it ready for the final practice. The wreck comes only five days after Riggs' spectacular accident at Talladega.
• Kevin Harvick and wife DeLana, will fly back to their North Carolina home on Friday to be with DeLana's critically ill father. RCR is expected to have a substitute driver to qualify the No. 29 Goodwrench Chevrolet and Jeff Burton is expected to drive Harvick's Busch Series car in Saturday's United Way 300. No word yet whether Harvick will return for Sunday's Banquet 400 Nextel Cup race.
