Kahne tests a modifield at Bristol: On Monday, June 8th, there were 19 Modifieds testing at Bristol Motor Speedway in preparation for the August debut of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour at the half-mile mile facility. Both Northern and Southern Tour teams are on hand. NASCAR Sprint Cup driver #9-Kasey Kahne was on-hand, and not as a spectator. Kahne is hopping behind the wheel of the Troyer house car. Rob Fuller took laps in the #96 H&H ride before Kahne arrived. Kasey Kahne was eighth fastest with a speed of 15.371 in the Troyer House car. Talk at the track is that Kahne will drive the car in the Bristol Mod race in August.(Speed51.com)(6-9-2009)

That will be fun to watch.

Hmmmm, it's funny but I've not heard of anyone from my home port, the home of the Souther Modified Teams, partaking in such a test. Maybe I'll read something later today, but my co-worker, who is one of the owners of such cars, said nothing about it to me today. All of which makes me wonder if this test was really something that the big dollar teams were allerted to and were given a chance to test.

BTW, speaking of these cars, Ted Christopher, who is a big name in these cars and otherwise, will be racing at Bowman Gray Stadium next week. My friend, who's driver is Bobby Hutchens, told me that Ted's team bought a new rear end that is almost needed for our short track, an article that isn't cheap. Andy, not our Andy, told me that it must be nice to have that sort of money.

We'll be at Bristol for the modified race (going to meet up with Mopar) in August. Maybe Speed will televise this race, but for anyone who has never seen the top modified cars run, it's a totally different sight. Just think about it, cars with the same engines as the Cup cars, in much lighter case with open wheels, going side by side. Oh yeah, 15 inch wheels and that isn't circumference. We're talking wide tires here. I'll bet Kasey was impressed with his test.

I'll be at Bristol in August too. Wednesday for truck and modified races, Friday for Nationwide and Saturday for Cup.

Modifieds are not televised enough. Awesome racing. The races that are in conjunction with the New Hampshire weekend ususally ends up on SPEED, and are well worth watching. Bump drafting or what ever you call it at New Hampshire, simply awesome. Wished we has more of that in the South. I caught the SMART cars at Tri County speedway one time, it was great.

Every Saturday night at BGS those Mods race. There is also two different touring series for the southern mods as well...ASA Southern Mods as well as the Whelen NASCAR Southern Modifieds. You can find the schedule for the NASCAR mods at http://www.southernmodified.com

Atleast nascar was smart and kept hoosier tire in one of their series. I think they were used in nascars old touring latemodel series as well.

Hmm my favorite driver in a Mod....now that would be cool! Can't wait for Bristol! Buck nothing like Mods shooting down the Backstretch at Thompson , hitting that turn 3 at about 120mph, they enter so late it is unreal, and make it stick. On the straights the Mods hit about 145-150mph at Thompson. I can only imagine how fast they will be at Bristol when I see it in person....what a sight that will be. Just hope mother nature is nice to us!:beerbang:
