KC Chiefs player dead

A Kansas City Chiefs player died early Saturday from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the team's training facility, according to NFL.com, citing a police spokeswoman and a team statement.
The player's identity was not immediately released.

Later, it came out that
Linebacker Javon Belcher was the Kansas City Chiefs player who killed his girlfriend and then committed suicide at the team's practice facility this morning.

When I saw this headline I thought it might be a really bad joke.

That is just a sad story. ESPN.com said that he killed his girlfriend at home and then went to the team's practice facility. Several players saw him in his car and went and told somebody inside that he needed help. The team's head coach, Romeo Crennel, and general manager, Scott Pioli, went out to see him. He stood there and talked to them while holding the gun to his head for a while. He thanked them for all that they had done for him and then shot himself in the head right in front of them. I feel for the family and friends of both he and his girlfriend.

Yep. I haven't heard many details so far, nor do I really expect to. They gave the guy's name and age(27?) and I'm pretty sure that they said he was single.
