Interesting how this year we arent having much of a championship points battle. Most people attribute this is because so many other drivers have had bad luck while Kenseth has had good luck.

Here is an interesting stat:

Last years points after Bristol:

1 Sterling Marlin 3240
2 Mark Martin 3145 -95
3 Jeff Gordon 3129 -111
4 Tony Stewart 3101 -139
5 Jimmie Johnson 3095 -145
6 Rusty Wallace 3078 -162
7 Ricky Rudd 2972 -268
8 Bill Elliott 2970 -270
9 Matt Kenseth 2959 -281
10 Dale Jarrett 2864 -376

Right now 2nd place in points, Junior, has 3241 points. So basically Junior is on par to be the championship leader in 2002.

Right now, 10th place in points, Robby Gordon has 2835 points, so basically Robby is on par to finish in the top 10 in points according to the 2002 stats at this time.

Take away Matt Kenseth this year, and the top 10 in points basically mirrors last years race for the title, Robby being 400 points behind Junior, who would be in first. Just slightly behind Jarrett last year.

At this point last year Tony came from 139 back to win the title, so essentially (without Kenseth) Junior, Harvick, Johnson, and J Gordon would all still have a shot.

Bottom line is that Kenseth has been unstoppable. Right now Kenseth has 3592 points. He is in a league of his own, because of that fact that he has had only 2 finishes outside of the top 15. Six years ago these types of stats were pretty common, but with the level of competition there is today it is quite a feat, and should be honored.

Bottom line to all this rambling? In my opinion, its not that all the other drivers have taken a step backwards, its that Kenseth has taken a huge leap forward.

hes lucky tho, but he has the talent to put up those number, and thats what he is doing

With out some luck he wouldnot be leading. But that in itself don't keep you on top. The guy has talant running out of his ears.
