Kerry Earnhardt and others test at Talladega: In less than a month, Kerry Earnhardt will make his qualifying run to compete in his first NASCAR Winston Cup Series event at Talladega Superspeedway. On Tuesday, Earnhardt and his BGN crew turned more than 50 laps in preparation to make their first Winston Cup event of 2002. Earnhardt will bring the #83 RacingUSA.com Chevy to Talladega for the EA SPORTS™ 500 Weekend, Oct. 3-6, 2002. Earnhardt races for Fitz Bradshaw Racing, but will bring a Dale Earnhardt Inc. car and motor to Qualifying Day on Oct. 4th. Earnhardt has raced a full BGN schedule this year after competing in a limited number of events in ARCA in 2001. Earnhardt won three of the five ARCA races he entered last year. Racing fans will no doubt see the signifance in Earnhardt’s car number 83. “That number was taken by NASCAR marketing, but they are allowing me to use it for this race,” said Earnhardt. “The number 8 is what my grandfather raced and the number 3 was my dad’s number.” Earnhardt’s brother, Dale Earnhardt Jr., also drives the No. 8. Dale Jr. has put that Chevrolet into Talladega’s Victory Lane in the past two NASCAR Winston Cup Series events. Other teams testing at Talladega Superspeedway were the #36 MB2 Motorsports with Ken Schrader, the #18 Joe Gibbs Racing with Bobby Labonte and the #91 Evernham Motorsports with Dick Trickle. The two-day test session will conclude on Wednesday.(Talladega Superspeedway)(9-10-2002)

I see where you are coming from Paul..........but he still has to qualify!! And, remember we have had Shawna and we survived!!:) But, I'm praying with you, Buddy!!

Man, I hope Kerry gets an old old car, older than the one kenny drove to 5th at talladega,

He probally won't even make the race. Usually around 50 cars qualify for Dega so he won't even make it.

If it's a DEI car you can bet it will be ready to run. Whether Kerry can make the show is another matter. Personally, I'ld be waiting for wide open track like Vegas or California but DEI puts out a dern good plate motor so I kinda understand why they are starting there.

Besides, if he is going to try to make Daytona...can't imagine why he wouldn't.....he's going to need the experience. Dega IS a plate race right? Or is my over the hillness showing again?

Actually this wont be his debut. Back in 2000, he adn the other Earnhardts were the first father and 2 sons in one race. It was michigan if i remember correctly. Kerry drove a dave marcis car

I remember that race. He crashed the car within ten laps of the race. Dave Marcis ended up getting in the car after the repairs where made and finished the race.

I hope the soft walls are in place by then.

Then again, maybe by then they can build Kerry a "soft-car"?

good idea. Maybe they could make one for Kurt Busch and Jimmy spencer.

:D Hay people. I know Kerry aint ready for Cup yet. But give him the benefit of the dout. He MIGHT finish the race. IF he qual.:) :)

Yikes! At the cost of how many other drivers though...

But hey, if it'll sell those tickets to the Earnhardt fans then so be it. Whatever it takes eh NASCAR?

The car that Kerry drove at Michigan was a DEI car with a 71 on it. Dave gave up his last provisional so his old buddy could race his sons and ended his streak of making the race himself. And as I recall, Dave did not get in the car to finish the race but hey, I've been wrong before.

What happened was Kerry found himself in the middle of a three car sandwich on cold tires and the rear end lifted, couldn't have been more than two or three laps in. Needless to say, I was downright disgusted.

Kerry ain't ready for a riding mower. :)

Now, now Paul.......Kerry may not be ready for WC or even BGN but I'm sure he can handle a riding mower......unless, of course, someone soups it up!!:)

Actually DEI I think so too..........but, he's really not the driver everyone thinks he should be. I doubt anyone wanted Kerry to do good in NASCAR Busch than I......but his heart isn't there like his father and brother. He needs to get out before he gets hurt.

Kerry ought to make the race handily, driving a DEI-supplied car. Any driver will tell you that all the driver does for qualifying at a plate track is hold the gas down and turn left.

The race, however, would be a different matter.

Maybe Mark Martins boy Mat will give him a dollor[10-10-220] to let him Qualify, and run the race.:D That boy Kerry isn't any better than Shawna when it comes to stock car racing. And no, I am not cutting down the Earnhardt family. This is just a true observation.:)

Is it up to NASCAR to decide who sponsors should or should not allow to drive their racecars? I agree that Kerry isn't at all ready for Cup, but is it really NASCAR's fault?

he can drive a race car......he won 3 out of 5 races he entered in the ARCA series.....and those cars are more like Winston Cup cars than Busch cars are.......remember Tony Stewart didnt do jack **** in Busch

You didn't. But you're suggesting that it's simply a result of NASCAR trying to cash in on the Earnhardt name, where I don't see how NASCAR had anything at all to do with the decision. Or did they? I really have no idea.

Paul you are one cool dude....just thought id let you know that

Winning an ARCA race....even winning a few ARCA races....against underfunded teams in a DEI prepared car is like winning a tricycle race on a ten-speed.:D

Good analogy.

Don't forget he also had the Pennzoil Cup pit crew cranking out 15 second pit stops while the other teams had bubbas taking twice as long.

Speaking of which, next time a nascar race comes to your town, try the tire change thing out in the concession area. The humble pie will do any armchair crewman good.

Thought I would go and look at Kerry's stat page. Out of 25 races He has finished all but 5. He has also finished 85% of his laps. Mind you that is not great but he has held his on. And there are a lot of drivers a lot worst.
