Keselowski fined by NASCAR: #2-Brad Keselowski has been fined by NASCAR for criticizing electronic fuel injection. Multiple people familiar with the punishment told AP on Thursday about Keselowski's fine. The people spoke on condition of anonymity because NASCAR did not publicize the fine. NASCAR has been privately punishing drivers for making disparaging remarks about the series over the last two years. The fine is believed to be $25,000 (Associated Press)(11-17-2011)

Fire up the black helicopters gonna be a long off season.

While I disagree with NASCAR on this one and think that drivers should be allowed to speak their mind (within reason), it's a fact that NASCAR drivers have to answer to NASCAR. NASCAR is their boss. Big deal. I have a boss too.

The sad part is $25,000 to Brad is like 25 cents to me. He is not going to miss it just like I wouldn't miss losing a quarter.

Yea, but how many times does your boss dock your pay because you criticize a decision that the company made?

I'm not surprised at all that they fined him. That's why I posted the Brad thread the day after he made his comments. The only thing the surprises me is that most are coming to Brad's defense. I thought, incorrectly, that many would come to NASCAR's defense on this as it was, well, Brad that said it. Funny how times change. It wasn't all that long ago that he was one of the most hated drivers on this board.

Many young, brash drivers get hammered by the fans at first and I for one didn't care for Keselowski either.

However, I'd say that over the past 1.5-2 years and especially leading up to the chase, he's shown himself to be level headed, talented driver who races somewhat clean and speaks his mind.

I suppose many of us were expecting him to act the part of spoiled, juvenile, the world owes me type of driver when in it seems as though he handles himself rather well - on the track and with the fans/media.

He'll never be my favorite but it's good to see a young driver showing some respect to others while still racing hard and winning at the same time.:beerbang:

Here's what Brad said and was apparently fined for?

"We're not doing this because it's better for the teams, I don't think we're really going to save any gas. It's a media circus, trying to make you guys happy so you write good stories. It gives them something to promote. We're always looking for something to promote, but the honest answer is it does nothing for the sport except cost the team owners money.
"Cars on the street are injected with real electronics, not a throttle body. So we've managed to go from 50-year-old technology to 35-year-old technology. I don't see what the big deal is."

BTW, that 25K went into the point fund not NASCAR's pocket.

I hate it when Nascar does this, they want the drivers to be little submissive Stepford wives that can't speak their mind.

The secrecy thing is as good as China's control of the press. A bunch of cowards that ain't man enough to go public with their policies.

I have really tried to cut back on griping about Nascar, it is to easy and lame to tear into them every day.

But it is beyond ridiculous to allow the boys have at it, Vickershole type deals. Just as long they are verbally kissing Nascar's butt to avoid a fine. They might as well give them cue cards and lets all speak in rote, like a bunch of dumb-bots.

Why ever listen to a Nascar interview, there all propaganda, because the freaking Gestapo's want let them say what they really think.

I hope that the France's and Helton have some skeletons in their closet that will be exposed in the near future. I want to see the control freaks burn, and wet their pants in public. I would enjoy seeing them humiliated.

Ok I am done, vented and feel better now.

Doesn't really matter, he still shouldn't have been fined.

I'm trying to think of another sports organization that puts fines Back into the "Players pockets" at the end of the year??? Maybe you can help???

I still can't stand Brad but that doesn't mean I think he should get fined.

It's not quite the same since but in the NHL, all fines go to the NHL Players' Emergency Assistance Fund which helps former players who are having financial difficulty.

Part of the money at one time went into the points fund but that is not the case anymore.....

Fines paid to NASCAR go to the NASCAR Foundation, which then goes to charity. That practice started in the 2008 season.

It does not go back to the 'Players pockets'.

SpeedPagan, most times I agree with your posts. This time I disagree somewhat. you criticize decisioins made by a company too many times and you may find yourself looking for a job. :)

Eh depends on the policy of the company, does it not?

Aren't you glad they finaly fixed that at all those years? I still Wish they would have set it up in a fund for "Old Retired Race Car Drivers" in need.

I'm confused. Since when does NASCAR pay any drivers salary?

FB thats a pretty silly question don't you think?

How About These Two ANDY

This is what happens when you have a multi-billion dollar sport run by uneducated alcoholics who answer to NO ONE except Tv Contract money and sponsorship money.....

NASCAR chairman Brian France defended the organization's policy of secretly fining Sprint Cup drivers but said the sanctioning body will review making those punishments public next year. (Translated that means I don't want to talk about it now.;) )

I don't remember him say they WILL review the policy. I thought it was more 'there isn't any reason to make them public, but IF we see a need to change it, we'll review it'.

I could be wrong, but that's what I remember.

It's slightly different at NASCAR.com. He never makes a commitment to review the policy, and doesn't seem to be interested in anything more than ending the questions on the subject.

France said the practice of fining drivers in secret MAY be reviewed. "This idea that there's a bunch of things going on behind the curtain -- we've never been more transparent," he said. "We've never had more of everything, and that's the way it should be. If there's a benefit to announcing them to the public, to the media, we will take a look at that. We just didn't see a benefit at the time. Maybe there is a benefit."

Despite being asked directly to exlain what part of what Kez said caused the problem, he never did.
