Brad Keselowski crashed in testing at Road Atlanta. He exited on his own but was transported to Atl hospital 4 further evaluation.

...Penske Racing says that it is a precautionary measure as to why Keselowski sent to Atlanta hospital after crash in testing 2day.

Glad he seems to be alright. First word was he was airlifted to hospital with no other info.

X-rays on feet r good, Basic injury pics (of what I can show), 1 and 2

That's one swollen ankle, but not bad for head on with concrete wall at 100 mph.

He has been joking around on Twitter, so he seems to be fine another than what's in those two pics.

The crazy bastard was tweeting while heading to the hospital. I'd be shaking too much.

@keselowski, here are your marks going off in turn 1.

@keselowski, here is the number you put on the wall!

And here is your car @keselowski... Glad you're alright man, you had us all worried....He is one tough dude, I can say that much. #huge

Not much left forward of that firewall.

And I don't give a crap what anyone says, Thank God for the new car and safety equipment!

X2...I have been very fortunate "knock on wood" that we have never had a driver seriously injured or killed on any of the teams that I have worked on in the last 20 years. But I can say that hauling a car back to the shop that has crashed or burnt to the ground from an engine explosion is a very long and subdued drive. I can't imagine what it would be like if we lost a driver.

I wonder what Jimmie would've tweeted after his wreck at Watkins Glen in 2000.

I'm really diggin the tow truck the car was attached to.

So, based on the pics provided in this thread, Brad's gas foot looks scuffed while his braking foot is swelled. Marty Smith from ESPN is skeptical about Brad racing @ Iowa and Pocono this weekend, and from the looks of that left foot, I'm a little doubtful as well. But I'm no doctor, either.

I suppose Penske Racing could put Sam Hornish Jr. in the Cup ride and Parker Kligerman in the Nationwide car. It's my understanding Brad would have to start in either of those races should he want to benefit from points. Guess we'll have to see what Doc has to say tomorrow, first.

But i think Brad knows right now whether he'll be racing this weekend or not.

His ankle is pretty swole.........I doubt he can race with that

Now that the adrenaline has worn off and due to na$cars drug policy those 2 Aleve every 4-6 hours aren't going to cut it.
He may want to race but IMHO it's doubtful at best. I'm wondering if he'll even be able to start and run a lap to get the points.

Maybe na$car should look into giving drivers 2 or 3 mulligans a season. :sarcasm:

IMO, if it's just a badly sprained ankle, he'll start the cup race and try to finish it. Hornish may do most of the practice sessions, and Brad will probably sit out the NW race because he is focused on making the chase. I think Pocono is one of the best tracks to have an ankle problem. He doesn't have to use a shifting setup, and he probably wont.

I thought it was the other way around. I though that Pocono is one of the places where they are shifting again. There and obviously road courses. It looks like a tough week ahead for Kes.......

The teams now have the option to go to a shifting setup, but they don't have too. There are also fewer caution at Pocono, less braking and less chance of another accident that aggrevates the injury. Even if he uses a shifting setup, Pocono lends itself to not using the clutch much when changing gears.

Pocono is much easier than short tracks and some mile and a halfs, where braking hard in the corner would surely wear on a bad ankle.

Uh you have to brake hard at Pocono so how would that help?

This was my impression too. They've always said that Pocono drives like a road course. Hard on the brakes in those turns. For years they used to shift. At one point they stopped for several years but recently have moved back in that direction once again starting with this past Pocono race.

In fact this was from brake failure http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgsWAN7Fo4I

Keselowski Scratched From Iowa Nationwide Race

It's now being reported that Kes...... will not be running in the Nationwide race this weekend.

From here.

Penske Racing announced his withdrawal from the event today, after Keselowski rode out a hard crash while testing his Sprint Cup Series Dodge yesterday at Road Atlanta. He suffered contusions and abrasions in the crash, and and was airlifted to an Atlanta Hospital for evaluation before being treated and released.

Parker Kligerman will practice Penske's #22 Discount Tire Dodge Challenger Friday, with Sam Hornish Jr. slated to qualify and race the car on Saturday. A statement from Penske Racing said the team will continue to evaluate Keselowski's condition, but he is expected t take part in Sunday's Sprint Cup Series event at Pocono Raceway.

Ummm, not nearly as hard as Martinsville, Bristol and all the other tracks where brake heat becomes an issue. When is the last time you heard brake heat being an issue at Pocono?

If I remember correctly, teams use their light brake setup for Pocono, much like super speedways because you get a long break between turns. There are clearly far worse tracks to race with a bad ankle. I'm surprised there is any argument about it.

My son had ankle surgery roughly 2 months ago, he tore the ligaments off the bone. He's a goalie in a adult sorta semi-pro team. His ankle didn't look as bad as BK's. I'm hoping against it but a MRI might reveal some real ugliness inside.

Keselowski tweet

Been a full day of doctors and hospitals here. The Good news? Just left dr.petty's office in Charlotte and i am cleared to race!

Wow pretty ugly looking ankle, I can't help but think that is going to hurt like hell when he trys to qualify at Pocono.

Update on Brad Keselowski: He has an "avulsion fracture" in left ankle and saw orthopedist who determined he could put weight on it. Keselowski cleared to compete at Pocono "without any limitations," Dr. Jerry Petty said. Hornish will now handle all N'wide duties in Iowa, practice, qual, and race 22.

An avulsion fracture is when the tendon stretches and breaks off a small piece of bone where it is attached. If the piece isn't displaced too much, they just let it heal without surgery.

Wow, can you imagine the pain if he gets in the fence again

They usually lift their feet off the pedals and hands off the wheel before impact, but it looks like the left front tire crumpled the floor space at RA. But yeah, any shock to the leg will hurt a little extra. I had this with a hamstring when I was 12, and the bone was pretty sore for six months. Even a year later any bang was a sharp reminder.
