No, not on the track. In tanks. WTF

Brad Keselowski shopping for Army tank, hopes Dale Earnhardt Jr. will buy one too

Brad Keselowski apparently isn't looking to buy a lavish new car with his new-found wealth after winning the Sprint Cup championship.

Instead, Keselowski wants to buy an Army tank.

"I haven't found the person I want to buy it from," Keselowski said Tuesday. "But I want to get something from World War II to Korea area, something (from) the '40s to mid-'50s, era."

He should be able to afford it. Last year, Tony Stewart received $6.1 million in winnings and special awards just for capturing the Sprint Cup title.

Keselowski already has won $6.2 million in purse money this year, so he and his Penske Racing team likely will top $12 million in overall winnings. Drivers typically get 40 to 50 percent of purse money on top of their salary and bonuses.

According to MilitaryTrader.com, an iconic M4 Sherman tank could sell for as much as $300,000. A more rare M5 Stuart light tank could go for $250,000, according to Pennsylvania-based Berwick Historical Society, which is trying to purchase one. Some Stuart versions were built in Berwick.

"I've been looking into that really all summer long," Keselowski said. "It all started with (former driver) Wally Dallenbach who was telling me a story about having one. I thought, 'Wow, that would be awesome.' "

Keselowski, 28, wants good friend and NASCAR most popular driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. to get one, too.

"I thought it would be cool if we both got a tank and chased each other around in the woods with them," Keselowski said. "It's kind of our deal. I promised myself if I won it, I would buy one whether Dale does or not.

"It was kind of a little bit of motivation, I should say. I'm not one to really buy trophies for myself, but I think a tank would be pretty cool.

"I want to put one together and have some fun with it. When I'm done playing with it, I'll just park it in the driveway and scare off people who aren't supposed to be around."

From here.

I enjoy that Brad still has a ton of little kid in him. This kind of thing is right up Jr's alley, so don't be surprised if it happens. They actually make colored 'flour' rounds for this kind of thing. Jr's Old West town could be a crazy place for tank battles between all the drivers.

I just hope he paints it blue so it matches that #2 Miller Lite Dodge (soon to be Ford).

Jr's got 200 acres. That's enough room to do it all without running over anything important.

Dodge,
Please come back to nascar :(
Sincerly,
AD3:)

I don't think the time to back out could be worse. With the 2013 cars actually looking like the street version, Dodge had a really good opportunity to really push the Charger. They would of had the only readily available V-8 rear wheel drive standard shift car to offer. The SS can claim that only they're available in limited #'s and that's not until August.

Ever operated a tracked military vehicle? That 200 acres that seems endless on an ATV gets small in a hurry, and if you can't fire the main gun then anything you can run over looks like a target of opportunity.

When I saw this thread I thought it might be about the competition for Danica's attention and affection.

Boy, was I ever wrong!! :p

Just for argument's sake, however, there are 3 potential suitors. One is the current CUP Champ, the second is a 2-time N'wide Champ and the third is an under-achieving big-name but 10-time MPD award winner.
And then there is SMOKE.

Which driver has the inside track??

Brad Keselowski says neighbor Dale Earnhardt Jr. 'all about' tank purchase.

8:36PM EST November 29. 2012 - LAS VEGAS -- Brad Keselowski's plan to buy a tank sounds like a blast to his next-door neighbor, who wants to get a set of treads of his own.
"I'm waiting on the house to start shaking," Dale Earnhardt Jr. said. "So when (Keselowski) drives up, I can go out and check it out."
The 2012 Sprint Cup champion, who lives in a house adjacent to Earnhardt's 200-acre estate near Mooresville, N.C., made headlines last week when he revealed he intended to make good on a promise to himself to buy a tank as a reward for winning the title.
"Obviously living where I do around Dale Jr., I thought it'd be cool if we both got a tank and just chased each other around in the woods with them," Keselowski said last week. "I promised myself if I won (the title), I'd buy one whether Dale did or not."
BAD BRAD: Keselowski thinking heavy artillery as reward for Cup title
After Thursday's Myers Brothers luncheon at the Wynn hotel, Keselowski said Earnhardt was "all about it" after they'd discussed the idea.
"I am beyond excited," Keselowski said. "I just haven't found the right deal. I'm shopping and soliciting."
The Penske Racing driver said he can spend anywhere from "40 grand to $500,000" on the tank but has a price range of about $80,000-$100,000.
"I want an American one; that's the problem," said Keselowski, who wants a model from the World War II/Korean War era. "Believe it or not, foreign tanks are cheaper and nicer."

Brad must be a Commie!!

It's true, you can purchase a WW2 Russian T-34 for less than the price of your average compact car and the newer BMP-1's are even cheaper! Thousands and thousands of them where made over the past 70 years and the ruskies are basicly selling them off at scrap metal pricing.

Yeah, I would buy a Tiger. But they pretty much don't exist. And fixing one would suck.

The t34 is an excellent choice.

I saw a running 42 M4 Sherman on sale for $380,000, fully restored with good documents they go for $400,000 - $500,000. A few Tigers are around none running that I know off and none you could buy for any price.
I recently purchased a restored 1960 Willys Jeep M38A1 I'd tell ya what I paid for it but I'm seriousley afraid my girlfriend may find out.
