A short track somewhere

Kesha usually looks kind of confused, so today's news shouldn't be so surprising.

The singer got on Twitter after it was reported Tuesday that some radio stations have yanked her single "Die Young" in response to Friday's Newtown school shooting that killed 20 elementary school students. She wrote "I did NOT want to sing those lyrics and I was FORCED TO." Which was surprising to hear, considering she's listed as one of the track's writers, along with Dr. Luke, Henry Walter, Benjamin Levin, and Nate Ruess.

TMZ pointed out Wednesday afternoon that Kesha bragged about the lyrics only last month during a radio interview with 95.5 WPLJ in New York back.

"I definitely make sure that every word rings true to me because I would never want to misrepresent myself to millions of people around the world," she supposedly said. " I wrote and rewrote and rewrote that song ten times."

Awkward.

The lyrics to "Die Young" include the line: "Let's make the most of the night like we're gonna die young. We're gonna die young. We're gonna die young."

Her tweets regarding "Die Young" have since been deleted. TMZ tried contacted Kesha with no luck.

Kesha isn't the only entertainment figure whose work has been affected by the school massacre.

TMZ reported that radio stations have also pulled Foster the People's "Pumped Up Kicks," which includes the line, "All the other kids with the pumped up kicks you better run, better run, outrun my gun." The band previously said the song is about "what would it be like to be inside of a kid's head that's a teenager and is basically losing his mind."

In the days following the shooting, executives at Fox decided to pull new episodes of "Family Guy" and "American Dad," replacing them with repeats in order to avoid airing any potentially sensitive content, while Tom Cruise's much anticipated film, "Jack Reacher" and Quentin Tarentino's "Django Unchained" had premieres postponed out of respect for the victims and their families.

I agree with pulling these songs. But I'm confused .... if she wrote the lyrics, so what? The song, which is by Kesha so it's probably not worth a crap, was released a month ago. And the Pumped Up Kicks was released a long time ago. Seems kind of a stupid thing to say you were forced to sing a song you wrote:rolleyes:

And now for the part Greg cares about:

No disrespect to anyone involved in any of the shootings in recent memory but I think the pulling of these songs is an overreaction. If someone is thinking that songs/movies/video games/etc..... are the reason for the behavior that we've seen from these effed up individuals than their focus is misguided. I own several guns myself, I've heard many of these same songs, watched the same movies, played the same video games yet I've never had the desire to slaughter mankind. The mental health of these people are what need to be addressed, not the opening of some movie or the lyrics of some song.

I don't think pulling the Pumped Up Kicks song is an overreaction. That song is about a kid plotting a massacre and it would definitely be in poor taste to play that song on the radio around this time.

Robert's got a quick hand.
He'll look around the room,
he wont tell you his plan.
He's got a rolled cigarette
hanging out his mouth.
He's a cowboy kid.

Yeah! He found a six-shooter gun
in his dad's closet, with the box of fun things.
I don't even know what,
but he's coming for you. Yeah, He's coming for you!

All the other kids with the pumped up kicks,
You better run, better run, outrun my gun.
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks,
You better run, better run, faster than my bullet.

[...]

I've waited for a long time.
Yeah the sleight of my hand is now a quick-pull trigger.
I reason with my cigarette,
Then say, "Your hair's on fire, you must have lost your wits, yeah?"

It would be in very poor taste to play this song on the radio after what happened at Sandy Hook.
(this isn't the Kesha song, it's the Foster The People song that was also pulled)

The song is not foreign to me. I have a couple different versions of it in my diverse music library.

I stand by my beliefs on this. I don't consider that a good thing if we start to pull songs, movies, games, etc. because they offend someone.

I don't think it's pulled because it's "offensive". The Kesha song shouldn't have been pulled ... at all. But the Pumped Up Kicks song, which I do like, I can understand pulling that one but I doubt it's anything permanent. I don't see the big fuss wish Kesha though.

I think I may have only seen about 3 pictures of her ever and in every one it looks like she's going to throw up. What's up with that?

I have no control over the radio in my truck when my 10 yr old is riding with me.
So I am familiar with the Pumped Up Kicks song and Kesha, as well. I got no problem with Kesha. Go ahead and punch my man card.

I'm sorta on the fence when it comes to pulling certain songs or tv shows as a reaction to a tragic incident.
Some of you may know Blake Shelton's Christmas special was supposed to rerun last Friday night but was pulled because it contained a "questionable" animated skit in the show.
Maybe they could've just edited that part out.
I saw the skit the first time and thought it was hilarious, but in the same breath, I could definitely see how inappropriate it would have been for it to be aired that night.

The song is not unlike any of the other compressed, over produced crap that you can tune into on just about any pop radio station.
