Kevin Harvick Officially Locked into The Chase

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP)—NASCAR says Kevin Harvick has clinched at least a wild-card berth in the 12-driver Chase for the Sprint Cup championship.

Harvick was not listed among drivers who had clinched after Saturday night’s race at Bristol because there are still scenarios where he could fall outside of the top 10 in points. Further review Monday by NASCAR determined his three victories this season have earned him at minimum one of the two wild cards.

Kyle Busch, Jimmie Johnson, Matt Kenseth and Carl Edwards officially clinched berths on Saturday night.

That leaves seven spots open to be claimed over the next two races. Drivers would prefer to make it into the Chase by being inside the top 10 in the standings because that will award them bonus points not eligible to the two wild cards.

Yes and they get seeded in those spots as well. The WC spots get no bonus points for their wins.

I think that realisticly the only ones not truly locked are ninth on back....it would really take something to knock the guys 8 and above out of the chase.

First Harvick after the fact and now Jeff Gordon too? Apparently Jeff Gordon somehow clinched his spot in the Chase a few days after the completion of the Bristol race. I though this new points system was to be so much easier. Who's running those numbers over there @ NASCAR anyway? I read somewhere that NASCAR just re-ran the points and it turns out Jimmie Johnson clinched his sixth straight title at Michigan but we may have to wait until next Tuesday to find out?

The only chance Tony has of making the chase is to finish in the top 2-3 the next two races. The way his year has gone I don't see that happening.

It's hard to figure, but if Tony has 2 top tens, he should be safe.

I think you have a better chance of water not rolling off a ducks back than Tony getting 2 Top 10's in the next 2 races.
