NASHVILLE TN (8-9-02) Friday night's Waste Management 200 at Nashville Superspeedway turned into an exercise of crisis control management after Frank Kimmel and Chad Blount locked horns racing for the lead near the end of the 200-mile race. Although there was still some waste in the end, Kimmel posted his 39th career ARCA RE/MAX Series victory while Blount went home with a wrecked race car.
Blount, #77, passed Kimmel through the tri-oval on lap 133 of the 151-lap race. After Blount completed the pass, he got a bump from Kimmel in turn one sending the Walkerton IN rookie hard into the wall.
Blount suffered a bruised right wrist and left elbow in the ordeal but otherwise checked out okay. However, his Todd Braun-owned race car was destroyed.
While there were plenty of sparks up front, local favorite Chase Montgomery made plenty of his own throughout the 200-miler. The Mt. Juliet, TN rookie hustled his Chevy Monte Carlo to a career-best 3rd.
#53 Robert Burroughs, in his own Chevy Monte Carlo, finished a career-best 2nd.
