We all know the drill by now: "promising young driver with an arrogant and ****y attitude finally gets his come-uppance and leaves Roush Racing in disgrace..."
The anti-Busch crowd(who are much more rabid than any anti-Gordon fans ever dreamed of being) must really have been high-fiving all over the country. After all, ol' Kurt does seem to engender that kind of emotion. Few drivers in recent memory have really raised the emotional responses---mostly negative---like Kurt Busch has in the last few years.
Because he is, well, a little arrogant and a lot ****y.
But thats ok---because he is also one of the most skilled and closely watched drivers on the circuit. And, ironically for one of the much hyped 'young guns', he is almost the 'anti-driver' for those sick to death of the cover boy publicity and obvious Nascar money generators like Jr, J.Gordon or Johnson.
Because while Kurt can be called a lot of things---a boy-band member isn't one of them. It's overlooked by about 90% of all fans, but Busch fills a niche. He is the driver of choice for those that want a 'different driver', a driver for the rebels.
Now, all he has to do is win and win big. Again.
Enter the famed 'blue deuce' and Roger Penske.
The number two car. One that used to smack and bang with a certain number three car. Also, one that is sponsored by a beer that isn't budweiser. The beer wars are here. And the rivalry of the future is as well...assuming a certain red-haired son of a legend can keep up, that is.
So let me state it here. It's as obvious as high gas prices, as clear as the weather in Paradise:
Kurt Busch is going to go down in history as one of the most dynamic and spirited drivers of all time. He is going to win big in Penske's dodge and he is eventually going to be Toyota's showcase driver. He is, maybe unfortunately, going to bury Ryan Newman, but is going to make fans of the legacy of the Blue Deuce proud. I have said it for years and years. Busch is the real deal, like him or hate him. And no credible fan on earth can really deny that anymore. I would bet my bottom dollar that in 25 years or so, the name of Kurt Busch will be as adored and popular as the name of Dale Earnhardt is now. He wont be appreciated while he's active, but he, much like Darrell Waltrip, will damned sure be noticed when he retires. AND EVERY NEWS GRABBING AND OUTRAGEOUS EVENT that happens now, is only going to add to his legend. Think about it.
As for me, though? With this #97 on my handle, my heart will be with Jamie and the Roush boys. It's the number I follow, always has been. And Biffle and Edwards aren't slouches either...
But I wouldn't bet against Kurt. He was booed, threatened and disgraced after the Spencer flap, too. And came back the next week and blew the field away to win at Bristol. The tougher the situation surrounding him, the more Busch rises to the occasion.
For his fans, I would say stay the course.
For his detractors I would say: "damn, the next 15 years are sure gonna suck for you guys."
Good luck Kurt Busch in your new ride. Good luck to any that have ever worn the old number 97.
(And that's it guys. Not to sound like my old much- missed buddy EMP, but with this post, I am out of here. No drama,a few regrets, but nothing I cant live with--and frankly, I am apologized out. Sure, I could stick around forever, pretty clear I won't be banned(at least I did tell one power-mad admin to kiss my ass)--but the question is:what does THIS board have that I need? Not a damned thing. Which is sad, because once, I truly loved it here.Bow, Whiz, Ferg, 4x, TRL,Kat and a few others---you guys take care. And Shady? I miss ya, sidekick.)
Later, gang.
