Furniture Row has talked to Kurt Busch about second team: #78-Furniture Row Racing general manager Joe Garone confirmed today that talks have taken place between the team and driver Kurt Busch, but said those conversations are not a result of dissatisfaction with the team's current driver, Regan Smith. "I have talked to Kurt Busch," said Garone, "but it was about a team we don't even have yet. We are working diligently on getting a second (Sprint Cup) car for next year, and I'm trying to get my hands around some of the guys that will be available going onto 2013. I wanted to make an introduction to Kurt, and just let him know what our plans are for the future." Garone said he believes Smith and Busch would make good teammates, saying, "Kurt and Regan have worked well together on the superspeedways in the past. They have drafted well together and talked well back and forth. Adding a second team would be a major boost for Furniture Row Racing, and we're all working hard to try and make that happen."(Godfather Motorsports)(5-3-2012)

Would be pleased to see this happen for Furniture Row, they need more support. Your thoughts?

They are certainly an up and coming team . A couple of years ago I would have said that Kurt could do much better. Now , with sponsors so hard to find ,even for the big teams , it might be a great deal. Also ,when you like at how quickly MWR has risen , it seems more possible . Then again , some merger between Furniture Row racing , Phoenix Racing ,and Dodge might be the ticket to the big time for all of them.

Nascar team based out of Colorado? Probably presents some challenges which no other team deals with but my opinion is that Regan Smith has some talent. I'd like see what he can do with some better equipment.

I like the merger idea there. Actually the whole post

A former champ that still has good technical skills, with very few options.

I can see future moms that need to wash out their little Johnny Cussers mouth with soap "son let me tell you what happened to a man named Kurt.... "

THey have been impressive at times being based in CO. I think another team with a vet driver like Busch would do them wonders. Even with his hangups, he is a former cup champion. I cannot for the life of me understand why no one sought after Regan after the great early start and win in 2011.

Agreed! It could be a win-win-win-WIN!

...but with fewer distractions and greater focus on the here and now.

Kurt would just love getting back in a Dodge.

I would agree! And if Dodge can deliver, well...

YEP! If he can find a way to swallow his pride and his ego (as if his firing by Penske wasn't enough) and focus on the task at hand, the sky is the limit!

Thanks, NN! Great Thread!

a sponsor wouldn't have to worry about getting tv time. kurt certainly draws attention regardless of his position during the race.
