Kurt Busch is underrated!

does anyone else think this? all you hear on espn is how gordan helled off JR at the end of the race i didn't hear anything about busch.

I certainly don't underrate him. He's one of the best. His championship proves it.

Unfortunately some of the announcers have one-track minds.

Maybe not underrated, but still he's not given his due. Three covers for the anual TV Guide before Daytona and you can't find him on any of them.

I don't think anyone in their right mind could "underrate" Kurt Busch.........he's the reigning Nextel Cup Champion!! :D Every driver on the circuit is attempting to unseat him this year......that sort tells me he's very highly rated!! :beerbang:

As for him not being on the cover of TV Guide or Sports Illustrated.........he's just not as popular among the fans as Jeff Gordon, Jr, or even Jamie MacMurry!! I suppose that is unfortunate..........but popularity is rather fickle. :) When he's running in his 15th year of Cup, he just could be the most popular driver ever!! Or he could be the goat next to Todd Bodine!! Who knows? :D

I don't think he is given it either. In truth Jeffy is not either.. He is the only driver with 70 wins and Jr. gets the spotlight! Or Waltrip with what, 2 wins? I never have understood how it got this way.

I understand it. :) What makes anyone popular? Talent? Hype? Kindness? Good looks? What they represent in what we perceive as values? Lot's of stuff. It's all related. And it is how any fan relates to everything about that particular person. It's also known as personality. When a driver (or movie star, rock star, or sports star) has enough in every category that the fans want, they become most popular. :) I'm no huge fan of Kurt Busch. I can see where he might be lacking in popularity among fans.........it has nothing to do with his driving abilities or talent. He just don't quite do for me.......and I guess I'm not alone.

Anna Kournakova is probably one of the most popular women in tennis, but she never wins.

As fans, we don't always care about winning or talent. :D

You always make so much sense, DE. :beerbang:

Kurt didn't have a very good beginning in Cup. He's not the same guy anymore. It'll take a while for a lot of people to get over it, and maybe they never will. I think he has shown a lot of class many times. He's also a far better spokesman for NASCAR than some previous champions.

basically im saying is that i didn't see gordan holding off jr at the end he was holding off busch, but thats not what the media says.

did someone on here really just say that jeff gordon doesnt get his due?

this isnt Kurt Busch's fault....but i dont think i'll ever hold the The Chase Championship as high in respect as i did the old Nextel/Winston Cup Champion...due to the fact that if you used the old points system last year...Busch would have lost by over 300 points...he over all was not the best driver last year...i hate gordon...but Jeff Gordon was.

Yeah, if I did not say it, I did mean just that.. Name ONE OTHER driver that has a ghost of a chance to EVER win 70 races... He is todays and tomorrows KING.. And what happens? Jr and Waltrip get the interviews..
You can hate him all you want but you gotta respect that he has done what few others have done and prolly nobody else ever will do.. Last Sunday was a good look at his ability. Jr was not even 2ed and the news was all about how Gordon held off Jr till the end...
Betsy

Jimmie Johnson has a shot at it...not a fan of his at all...the way he's running..he's got a shot at it...as does Ryan Newman if he pulls off a couple more 8-9 wins a season has he has done in the past.....Tony Stewart can do it aswell....hell Jr might be able to do it aswell.

I don't think you will be seeing too many people winning 70 plus races in a career anymore........and I can guarantee you won't be seeing anyone winning 200!! Things have changed dramatically in the last 5 or 6 years at the competition level!! Jeff doesn't spend nearly as many evenings in Victory Lane as he did a few years ago..........he'll likely be spending fewer and fewer as the years more on. There's a reason for that..........the drivers in the sport now are so much better (as a whole) than just 5 years ago. I also think it's going to be very hard (if not impossible) for Jeff (or any other driver) to get 7 Championship titles........let alone surpass that. Jeff has the best chance, though..........he's racked up his numbers before the present herd of drivers entered NASCAR!! Believe it or not, there are better drivers out there than Jeff, Jr, JJ, Ryan, Kurt (you name whoever you want) and they will be competing soon........some already are!! :D

I agree with DE!! But i do think that Bush is underrated.. I mean everyone in the medea doesn't give him much credit, its like saying his championship doesn't count.. I think he did the best under the new conditions and he earned it.. we can't take it away from him just because it is different than the old system, i say good for Bush

Underater absolutely. I am not even a Kurt Busch fan. But the man is good. You will see a lot of Kurt busch running up front and in Victory lane. He's just that good. :beerbang:

He's definitley a great driver...I have to give him that. I just don't like his interviews for some reason. Maybe its his attitude or face or something. :p

I, for one, have never said Busch is under rated.......in fact I've said that he is rated very highly!! Fans and media count only in the popularity department. Fellow drivers and teams are what count on the track......and he gets tons of respect there!! Every driver on the NASCAR Nextel Cup circuit knows he's the Champ..........and they are out to unseat him this year. If you don't respect who you are chasing in any contest, you are doomed to failure..........and there are quite a few who know that well!!

But, (perhaps it's his personality) he isn't interviewed much.......but the season is just starting, too. You know, Matt Kenseth had the same problem early last season. Wait for the "he's a robot" commercials to come out! :D And another thought. He drives for Jack Roush. And Jack Roush seems to pick drivers that are rather low keyed in the personal area.

Anyone who doesn't believe Kurt Busch is a true Champion or that Kurt Busch would have been 300 points behind Jeff Gordon if the C4C was not place is simply in denial (god, I hate that phsyc word........but it fits). :)

I know, and understand that kb won the championship, that was how the rules were at the time and everyone knew it. However if you dont realize that jeff preformed better on the track in every category compared to kurt busch in 2004 you are in denial.

This I don't think is the debate. Everyone knows there are drivers like Jeff that out preformed Kurt. But he is good and underrated. He is a lot better than the guys in the booth and others give him credit.

Geez your statements are amazing sometimes, 75% of his wins was in the 90's
He may have won 70 times but I bet he won't win 100 and I'll give him another championship but he'll never have 7, I'll give gordon his due, he is a great driver but he'll never be as great as the legend Dale Earnhardt.
