Come one, come all.. Read for yourself from the original report.

Police Report

When he was pulled over last week by a Phoenix cop, belligerent NASCAR driver Kurt Busch told the officer, "You're only doing this because you're a Jeff Gordon fan." That ridiculous gem is one highlight from three entertaining Maricopa County Sheriff's Office reports on the November 11 traffic stop near the Phoenix International Raceway (copies of the reports, which were released yesterday, can be found below). Busch, the 27-year-old reigning Nextel Cup champion, also made sure to tell sheriff's deputies, "You guys are a joke, punks. Aren't you supposed to be directing traffic somewhere?" And, of course, he repeatedly asked, "Do you know who I am?" The cop who pulled Busch over, Deputy Glenn Powe, reported that Busch followed that query up with a "long-winded dissertation about his celebrity status, listing his accomplishments as if he were reading me his resume." Powe, who cited Busch for reckless driving, a misdemeanor, explained that he did not follow stock car racing. Powe also noted that Busch exclaimed, "I'm not doing this gay-ass test," when asked to perform one sobriety test. Deputy J. McFarland noted that the combative Busch told officers "you guys are out of control," while Lieutenant Randy Brice reported that Busch, using the voice of an "impertinent child," exclaimed, "This is just a bunch of high school games!" Busch, Brice added, continued to "bluster and struggle" until he was handcuffed. At that point, Busch said, "You have no idea who I am! You have to be the dumbest cops I have ever met! You are going to regret this!" While Powe reported smelling alcohol on Busch, a preliminary breathalyzer test showed the driver to be far below the state's legal limit. Busch, who has apologized to cops for his combativeness, was suspended for the final two races of the NASCAR season by Roush Racing, for whom he has driven for the last five years.

Good lord. I am not sure how his jerk status could get any worse. Sheesh.

I know a lot of you will not agree with me, but this entire incident with this particular police department seem a bit suspect. I think the sheriff has been watching the movie "Walking Tall" too much. I have to say that I am not a fan of Kurt's. I honestly can't stand him, but I have found myself defending him. I don't think that the public is ever going to get the truth about what really happened out there on that street where Kurt was pulled over. I think both sides are back tracking trying to portray themselves in the best light. Let me also add that I do not condone being a but head to police officers at all. My husband is a State Trooper, and believe me he has dealt with his fair share of fools.

I, for one, totally agree with you. !!!!! The whole thing smells. And the way Jack is treating him is just vindictive, I too think Kurt is a disrespectful a**hole, but the punishment should fit the crime, and it doesn't.

At what point did you realize you should defend Kurt ??
Was it when he exceeded the speed limit by fifteen miles per hour ??
Or was it when he refused to stop for the deputy sheriff ???
Possibly when Kurt ran the stop sign ???
Or mioght it have been when he asked the deputy, "do you know who I am ?".

Kurt got bad press, for sure. I wonder how much bad press he might have gotten had he stopped, handed his license to the sheriff deputy and kept his mouth shut ??? Kurt Busch opened the door to his celebrity status and from that point on, was treated with a degree of caution and hostility by the deputies at the scene which necessitated the assistance of backup and a supervisor.
At what point does Kurt deserve sympathy and/or defense from outsiders ??

Seems to me the Maricopa Copunty Sheriff Department was doing thier job and got the major part of the situation correct while possibly fumbling the rest, it does not excuse the motor vehicle charges nor Kurt's handling of the situation.
It raises the question if it were some other celebrity, would they feel the same way ???

Most of us do not like to see celebrities treated differently and the sheriff department must place themselves in a good light just as Kurt will try to do the same thing, a sort of tit for tat arrangement.

There might be good reason to have sympathy or at least some small sign of a defense for Kurt, but the Maricopa County Sheriff Deputy was doing his job of traffic control, saw a violation fitting the description of a possible drunk driver, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Good post Whizzer.

I know many people believe that Kurt got a rotten deal, but s#*t happens like this and usually, what goes around, comes around. I'm sure there are plenty of people who think that TO got a rotten deal in Philly, but both he and Kurt earned everything that they got, from money all the way to the suspensions. So often, people who achieve such fame and money believe that the world owes them for what they have. It's the other way around and the sooner these guys learn that, the better off we all will be.

I agree, Buck. Chalk it up to karma maybe.

Whatever the case, I know how bad I felt when Jimmie wrecked those guys at Talladega and didn't take responsibility - I can't imagine if he talked **** to the cops, after speeding, driving recklessly, running a stop sign, almost hitting an innocent motorist, and failing to stop for a sherriff's vehicle and then tried to say it wasn't his fault during a championship run after ducking out on his team.

Kurt's an a**hole, we all thought it, this just proves it.

I mean really; who didn't read those police reports linked above and not think; "Man, where's Jimmy Spencer when ya need him?"

Allow me to clarify. I do not condone Kurt's action at all. Reckless driving, speeding, and the possibility of him being drunk are serious infraction. As I stated earlier my husband is a State Trooper, and deals with people everyday that act just the same way as Kurt reportedly did. The only thing that I am defending Kurt for is against the "burn him at the stake" mentality many people have taken against him. We don't know for sure what happened out there between Kurt and the officer, so I don't think we need to beat Kurt with a baseball bat just because he possibly behaved like an idiot and asked "Do you know who I am?" I pose the question to anyone who feels Kurt tried to use his "celebrity " status to get out of this situation, Have you ever tried to use a connection to get something you want? Have you ever tried to use the friend of a friend approach to attain a desired result? That would be no different that what Kurt possibly did. Allow me to also add that if we were to lock you an throw away the key of every person that acted foolish during a traffic stop the jails would be full and there would be no room for the killers.

kurt has ran his mouth on tv before . sounding like a child. made threats on tv. why would anyone want to think he would'nt to the police. if you knew more about his back ground before nascar , you may think a little different. i know several people that raced with his family, and i'd only put it this way . it seems that the busches have found a different way to put their pants on than the rest of us .

I don't think this only about this one situation. There have been other times when he has acted like a complete ass. Earlier this year, he was heard on the radio, dropping the f-bomb towards Rousch and saying he could shove it up his backside. and in another race flipped out at nascar and cussed them out on the radio along with other actions that day. A few years back he stood in front of a camera after the winston and outright said that he spun out one of the childress cars purposley to get a yellow flag. I don't think anyone can forget the Incident with Spencer. and who knows what else has gone on behind the scenes. Although everybody makes mistakes, His behavior in general has pissed off sponsers, nascar, rousch racing and a whole lot of fans.

There definitely was some "burn at the sake" mentality but the police report is very through adding fuel to the "burn them at the stake" fire. There were more than enough law enforcement officers to observe Kurt's actions and subsequent detainment.

I pose the question to anyone who feels Kurt tried to use his "celebrity " status to get out of this situation, Have you ever tried to use a connection to get something you want?

Absolutely, but this does not make it right neither does it deserve defending.

Have you ever tried to use the friend of a friend approach to attain a desired result?
Asking the "friend of a friend" for considerations is a bit of a stretch. BUT, in fairness, and considering the circumstances, how much consideration might a person be expected to give to the "friend of a friend", when the party requesting or suggesting they deserve "special treatment", is acting like the north end of a horse walking south ????

That would be no different that what Kurt possibly did. Allow me to also add that if we were to lock you an throw away the key of every person that acted foolish during a traffic stop the jails would be full and there would be no room for the killers.

No one has suggested jail time for Kurt. The posts thus far have indicated most want Kurt to accept responsibility, behave like a mature individual, and live up to the expectations most seek in the 2005 NEXTEL NASCAR Champion. Well, all the above along with, lose some of the attitude thrown in.[/I]

I agree. He's always been a moron, still is a moron, and for all I see, he's always going TO BE a moron.

i never liked him, he is full of himself. "you know who i am" comment is hilarious...i mean really? who are you kurt? he surely thinks he's a big shot..poor loser

Whizzer we do agree on a couple of things Kurt should definitely lose some of the attitude. You are also right about if he hadn't acted like the north end of a horse walking south people probably would have been a bit more accepting of the fact that he made a mistake. :)

I will add one more thing about the friend of a friend thing I remarked about earlier, My husband comes home every night from his job and tells me, "You know I pulled this guy over tonight who said he knows my (insert family member here) and thought I would give him a warning instead of a ticket." Those type of people are out there, in fact they are everywhere! You would be surprised at some of the things my husband has come home to tell me about. He has stories that could go on for days about the different ways people try to get out of tickets. :)
