“I’m very happy to join Phoenix Racing and after entertaining a lot of quality offers, there’s no better place for me,” Busch said. “We’re going to run the full schedule together, and we’re going to have fun doing it.

“It’s going to be old-school racing, where we show up, race hard and go for the win. And if we don’t win, we’ll go back to the shop, work hard and do it all over again next week. That’s the way we all started racing, and it’s great to get back to that.”

...till the first time he has a bad shock, a loose driveshaft or a lousy pit stop. Then it will be the same old Dumbo...

Last week, team owner James Finch(car #51) weighed in on the subject of taking on the 2004 Sprint Cup champion. “Kurt, his talent is pretty good,” Finch said. “He’s one of the best there is, but I’m not going to listen to that s**t and pay him money.”

Finch even went on to joke that he would make Jimmy Spencer his crew chief to keep the volatile Busch in line.....

the rest-ist of this post that you will be reading below at that present time, is my thoughts

I hope Jim sticks to his guns, and makes Kurt behave. Kurt doesn't need a psychologist, he just needs a firm Deddy to make acting like an idiot, very very painful.

He is an exceptional driver, learning some discipline is all he needs.

Take the jewelry off James, that's the kind of friend and Deddy he needs.

All due respect to Finch's organization but Busch had that one race last season when he blasted how terrible Penske cars were on the radio to his crew & now he drives this car so I cannot wait to see what he has to say now...

pretty sure spencer would take the job as a consultant...free.

I believe you guys are missing the boat a little here, the #51 is not at all a "back marker" deal, it's a full tilt, no holds barred Hendrick car with a Hendrick engine. Don't forget the #14 won 5 Chase races and the Title with HMS cars and engines and the #51 will have the exact same equipment; the engines which come out of HMS are all exactly the same. In previous years the #51 did serve a dual purpose; James Finch raced it out of his shops of course but it was also used by Hendrick Motorsports as an R&D car when new designs needed track time during the development process. Any engineering assistance or help in the pits which becomes necessary will be available from HMS. The #51 should be strong right of the box.

Excellent points, Rusty. This next season could be very interesting.

Welcome to the forum. :beerbang:

I'll be pulling for them too. While they may not be a back marker they are a liitle guy to the big five teams . And what a great story it would be this year if they were to run even top fifteen. This is the " Great American Dream " and Hollywood should watch this story. All the nay sayers on this forum just adds to the drama . It's great.

Yeah, Im curious on how he acts and does next season.

Kurt will still be spirited , colorful and ,at times, outrageous . He will still be a talented ,agressive driver ,fun to watch . I will be cheering for James Finch more than for Kurt..but I applaud all of the nut cases ,without them I would not be watching a single race. 'Have At It Boys' saved Nascar.

Obviously 51 needs a good sponsor to run well at that level and it will be interesting to see if they can put something together considering the baggage Busch brings to the table. But, don't forget that the HMS marketing department is the largest and best in the business and few realize Rick has sent good sponsors over to other teams and the size of some would raise a few eyebrows. 51 is an HMS customer and successful businesses take good care of their customers.

Also, with the recent layoffs by several teams of some very good but no longer affordable talent I bet the resumes' are starting to pile up over there.

Phoenix construction just landed 2 huge contracts to build mansion sized rubber rooms for Kyle and Kurt, so finances shouldn't be a problem. ;)

Great points Rusty34 ...I say it's a sponsors dream match up.

Kurt can drive. There is no debate regarding that. And with cars built by HMS he should have good equipment beneath him. And as Rusty34 said, there is a wealth of talent out there for the team to draw from.

If Kurt can maintain his composure (odds on that can't be higher than 50/50) then we may see some good results for the 51.

One thing's for sure, I'll be watching!

Thats sad

I think this will be a real test if he can run competitive with an under funded team like Finch without a meltdown then he will likely return to a top ride in the future.

Not really, he's made his bed, now let's see how he handles the situation.

Sorry - Chevy or no Chevy.

Just can't pull for this guy. Gotta draw the line somewhere.

I haven't cared for Kurt since he used his car as a weapon in the pits. I am just thankful that no one got hurt that day. I had hoped someone would take him out behind the wood shed and give him good old fashioned azz whipping. That would have done him more good than anything.

I have never hated any single cup driver but I sure don't care what becomes of Kurt at this point.

Once a puke, always a puke.

If he doesn't run well right out of the box he'll get frustrated and start pulling bone head moves.

If he does run well out of the box and doesn't get the respect he thinks he deserves he'll start pulling bone head moves.

By respect I mean everyone getting out of his way because after all he's kb.

It's going to be a win win no matter what side your on.:D

You could be right. But I think I'm going to wait and see how he handles everything since some of the boiler pressure is off of him. But I definitely think it will be interesting to see how he performes with his new team. Time will tell.

He has the ability but I think he lacks the patience and maturity needed. He's easiliy frustrated, gets P.O.d real quick in other words and that will be his downfall. This is his last chance with any team other than driving for his bro or starting his own team. Good luck in finding a sponsor.

even if he gets that car it the top 10 every race he's gonna need a thick skinned winning crewcheif and and pitcrew to go along with it cause they won't win races with what they have now.

Yep. This is a guy who flips out and cries when he loses two positions on pit road or loses one position on the track. Imagine if he loses 10 spots on pit road or doesn't have a top three car

Pemberton. LOL. He just lost his job at Red Bull. And I haven't heard of him lining anything up. He seems to know how to get things done. And he's a spark plug.

I'm just speculating here , but my impression of Penske Racing is that it is run by the suits and the engineers . Their choice of a new driver and crew chief for the 22car says to me that those positions do not need to be filled by top notch people .My point is ..that driving for an organization that gives you a car to drive that isn't very good ..must be very frustrating ..On the other hand , driving a car like Jimmy Johnson does where you and your crew chief have complete control must be very satisfying .Not to say that things don't go off the rails ,at times , but at least it was your set up. I really think Kurt will be a different driver IF he has more input into the set up of the car .

You must mean like the car penske gave Brad. :)

The next move for KB is start and park. He has been working his way down for years.

Yes like that .What works for one team member often doesn't work for his teammate ,we've seen that a lot.
Brad did very well this year .I really hope that he can make the chase in 2012.If a couple of new faces like Biffle and Kane get in , it will be more difficult.

While I do not particularly like him. Kurt is a past cup champion . He did beat some pretty good racers to win that title .I would not be as quick to sell him short as some folks want to.
