How many of you know that Kurt is on "unofficial probation" for the rest of the year? They, NASCAR, is keeping a low profile on this and is telling the reigning champ that he needs to act like a champ. The resulting action is taken because of the incident that happened at Darlington a few weeks ago. One has to look deep to see anything on this, even at "independant" NASCAR.com. One of the local TV stations had a tease about an upcoming story in sports and showed Kurt's face, but when the sports section came on, nothing more was said. Of course, I missed the first minute or so. Anyway, it's interesting that a reigning champ has to be chastised for his actions and more interesting that the sanctioning body is keeping it so quiet.

I read something about that the other day Buck. But you know as well as I do, that "double secret squirrel probabtion" means nothing. Look what happen to Stewy when he was on it and he continue to spin people out...

The same that happened to Busch a couple of weeks ago and the same when he does it again. Nothing.

Helton needs to bend Kurt over his knee and give him the whoop ass that boy needs. He is fast becoming a disgrace to NASCAR and what a Champion is supposed to represent.

LOL. This is not Sunday School.
So he lost his temper during a race. Not good, but so what? Other than that, he's doing just fine.

:p

I'll go along with that! :) But a sizable portion of the fan base is hopelessly attached to the PC way of thinking. We can't have any flipping off by drivers anymore, no shouting matches by crew chiefs, no retaliatory bumps, and certainly no more little "settling of differences" after the race! :D Everything has to be "clean and on the up and up". I used to love to see the extra curricular activities following a good, heated race.........no more, though. :(

Looks folks he triing to take the south out of the racin.

DEW, you are of course right. For the last five or six years, they have been trying to put forth an angelic face for the sport and that's about as far from real as you can get. Some years ago, the new promoter for the races here in Winston at Bowman Gray Stadium tried to do the same thing. One of his chief scorers was a veteran of NASCAR's scoring and told him that if he did that, took all the emotion out of the racing that the stands would be empty the next week. He decided not to enforce the newer PC rules and the stands are full each and every week. This past week, we had an incident that if it had happened in the Cup series, there'd be two drivers suspended for the rest of the year if not forever, two team owners who would be on probation and fined probably about 2 million dollars apiece. But, since this is Saturday night racing at it's best, these two guys will be back racing against each other and us fans will continue to watch to see if anything else happens.

I kind of feel sorry for some of these guys. After the race when a microphone is pointed at them they can't say what they really want to say. All we hear is scripted stuff. Who the sponsors are and how and how the **(insert sponsor name) car and team performed. BORING!
Maybe it'll come to the point when all drivers have prerecorded before and after race statements, all proof read by NASCAR of course.

Unfortunately a lot of fans are no better. If one of the drivers dares to complain or put fault on another driver, fans go ape. Proof is on every racing forum. Including this one.

It's always been that way about drivers spouting the sponsor stuff........it is (and always has been) "in the contract"! :) Jeff Gordon perfected the practice.........and I must say, it's good!! The sponsors foot the vast majority of the bills so they deserve the plugs..........every single one of them! :D

But part in your post about fans getting all fired up when a driver dares speak his mind about an incident on the track or other driver's driving style is right on the the mark. It used to be taken with a "grain of salt"...........no more though!! We get hurt feelings by some fans and we get the "egger-ons" who enjoy stirring the pot (but, I must admit, I've been guilty of the latter myself :) ). It amazes me sometimes how seriously some take what an opposing fan might say about their particular driver. It's a sport. And a sport may be a livelihood for those participating in it, but for the vast majority, it's entertainment...........did you enjoy it or did you not? Seems a lot of us claim to enjoy the sport..........but only when everything goes our way!! :) I've been mad as hell about something during a race but when I slow down and think: "Did I enjoy it?" it always becomes so much less important. Many fans.........here and everywhere..........need to back off and decide if they really love NASCAR racing. I see way too many bashes against NASCAR and drivers and even fans to believe everyone here loves the sport.

Of course you're right about mentioning sponsors names, DE. I can live with that, but please, let the drivers respond to questioning without making them into robots.

I used to enjoy comments by Harvick and Stewart and Busch and others. Now I don't watch post race shows anymore. In fact, pre race shows are no better. And even worse, are the interviews in the car during pace laps and cautions.
