The "good old days" ??
First, lets make sure KB fans don't take this the wrong way. This thread isn't about taking glory from Kyle, because he ran one hell of a race. He's one of the guys who actually raced the whole night, and I respect that.
I started this thread because I like to really understand what ACTUALLY happened after all the emotions settle. Often, we hear the announcer blame a driver for a wreck, but when you replay it on the DVR, reality is completely different. Lots of people are amazed by Kyle's SECOND save of the night while I'm not overly impressed with his car control, even though he did save the car from getting bent up.
I'm much more impressed with the first save where he gets turned further and over corrects twice (turns too far back up, then turns too far down and hits the apron again) but kept the tires on the car. 20 seconds in.
In the second save, he doesn't get turned as far to the left (20 seconds) but over corrects 3 or 4 times, turning himself more to the left each time he hits the apron, and finally spins down to the grass. He pits for 4 tires ( 2 minutes) and restarts 8th. He survived, but IMO, he displayed better car control in the first save.
When Kyle was giving his post race interview, he said that the first save was luck, but he learned what to do for the next time. He went on to say that the second save was all skill, because he learned what to do in his first "lucky" save earlier in the race.
Both saves allowed him to continue and get an epic win, so which save do you think shows better car control?
