Icymi, Jimmie Johnson has won 7 titles compared to Kyle Busch's 1, even beating Kyle Busch when he was well past his prime for his final title. He dominated that burnt shrub for ten years. Kyle Busch is not the GOAT. He will peak below Richard Petty, David Pearson, Dale Earnhardt, Jeff Gordon, and Jimmie Johnson.

By the way, did I mention Jimmie Johnson has 7 titles against Kyle Busch?

Yeah, Jimmie Johnson won 7 titles against Kyle Busch.

    Jimmie Johnson.

kenseth won the last championship, the chase is a different era, and does not really mean much.

Don't hate the player...hate the game.

Kenseth's legit win is what started all of this.

No denying that Jimmie was awesome though.

Every year I went to Dover...he proved it...again and again. He was a machine.

If he can get to 60 before the season is up, he'll need to average 4 wins a year from his age 35-44 seasons to reach 100 Cup wins.

And Kyle had his 2nd best season in 2008.

I've long been on the Kyle Busch = LeBron James/Tim Duncan train. Top 10 all time with better talent, entered his prime at a young age and stayed there longer than most drivers entire careers.

    To piggyback off this ..

He's a hybrid of the two. Kyle's peak is clearly below the top 5 drivers of all time (Duncan). But he is top 10 all time driver with better talent who entered his prime at a young age and stayed there longer than arguably anyone ever.

Kyle has always been super raw. That All or Nothing stuff was mostly with Hendrick. 2008 he put together a full season. If Kyle's peak ability is a 100, he was at 90-94 by 2008. He was always super talented. What made him execute and perform better from 2015 onwards were two/three things... Being a father/growing older is one. He just started to "get it" more. Seeing Kyle let faster cars go was a sign of this. And the other, as much as some don't want to admit..is the changing of a guard. I don't think it's any coincidence that Kyle's prime started and his contemporary champions from 2000-2014 declined and retired, much like how Lebron has has started his prime against the Kobe's of the world, and continued his prime into the the Giannises of the world. Kyle's win percentages are elite but just below all time elite, his title numbers are not elite. But he wins a lot now and is building a solid resume without losing a step in over 10 years.

His greatest acclaim to greatness is youth and logevity imo. He may go down as the most durable/reliable race winner of all time and he's the best driver since Gordon Stewart and Johnson. His career has parallels with DW. DW was second fiddle for a while, but unlike Kyle, he didn't have a 3-5 year span where he is the guy.

Disagreed. Johnson didn't miss 10+ races en route to his title.

I don't even think people are taking shots at Kyle. Just grounding his ranking a bit.

See my post above? Lots of us are happy to discuss Kyle's greatness within the context of his own greatness

Kyle Busch has a title without an asterisk. Last year. He scored the most points in 2018.

In terms of Cup drivers that have raced in the past 10 years Kyle ranks 3rd.
    He’s tied for 9th all-time.
    Pretty impressive.

I'm bumping this with my comment from last week, because I think it's an interesting talking point... Kyle's longevity, and amount of time performing at an "MVP" level.. if you will.

Too much has changed to compare drivers from a different time, I just can't see it. Surely some famous chariot racer has more wins than Kyle ... was he a better driver or was it the horsepower ?

I don't know. But that's kind of besides my point. I suppose I'm trying to look at Kyle Busch's career as a body of work, opposed to what he's doing right now

I'm not talking about now lol I'm talking about his entire career's body of work as a whole in terms of career value, prime, peak, etc 2005-2019. Idk how else to explain it dude lol

Sonoma race fell flat -- part of it seemed to be due to various points and race strategies.

The only thing that kept the third stage from being a total disaster was Kyle Busch running down Truex. KyBu saved that race.

KyBu took a damaged car with marginally fresher tires and got after MTJ. It was great to see the Pearn/Truex Team cooly handle that pressure.

3rd and back were absolutely non-factors.
