I wouldn't hand out the title of next superstar sensation to Kyle just yet. This kid Shelby Howard at age 17---which is even younger than Kurt's little brother---won his second ARCA race at Kansas sunday. That makes Shelby, not Kyle, the youngest ever ARCA winner.

Here's hoping Shelby gets the breaks he deserves and at least gets a good ride offered to him.

These car owners have to remember the Bobby Hillin factor after all.Bobby DID win his first cup race at an even younger age than Jeff Gordon was when he won his first cup race.Sure, maybe in the scheme of things that doesn't mean much...but it sure seems to be what catches the big-teams eye.

Guess we will all have to wait a few years to find out!

not to knock arca, but i dont see winning an arca race for kyle as a big acomplishment, they are basically cup cars, and with the resources of a cup team there should not be a problem winning one, the competition level isnt the greatest, i dont know what kind of equipment that shelby kid gets, but he might fall in the same category, with that being said, oviously these kids can drive or they wouldnt get those chances, but i think kyel has the potential to be a superstar, but he has to get the chemistry like evernham/gordon, or kurt/fennig, cause we know alot of drivers can drive, just need the chemistry with the crew and team

Good conversation is healthy,But Kyle could fall off the radar as fast as some of the other good puppies.Stop with the next Jeff,or Dale etc.
Time will tell for these young pups that are handed a steering wheel in the big league. I have seen many not live up after they get some real ponies under there belt. ^_^

The difference being that gordon went on to better equipment, hillin didn't.

Bobby Hillin's grandfather bought Bobby's ride in Winston Cup. Bobby deserves credit for staying in the series for as long as he did and for getting his first and only win at Talledega, a track that seems to produce first and one-time only winners. Still not a bad accomplishment as a win is a win is a win, no matter where or when.

As for as Hillin's equipment, he stayed with the Miller sponsored race Team owned by Stamato Brothers for several years after his win. He was released by Stamato Brothers and regressed to lesser financed rides after failing to be consistent. Hillin had several shots later with decent teams, but did not produce for any of them.

Bobby Hillin is a perfect example of a particular thing NASCAR Winston Cup Series race teams seem to have done in the past, which is to hang on to mediocre drivers. There are drivers who have remained in the series for years after they failed to accomplish little and still continued to secure rides. Today, the younger drivers are getting a chance with less experience and so far few have fallen below expectations. Not to say they won't, but the ARCA and ASA series provide a perfect minor league background for these young upstarts.

There is absolutely no way to even begin to try and compare Bobby Hillin and Jeff Gordon. Hillin might have won his first race at an earlier age than Gordon but he never won again and is no longer racing in the series. His star faded off the horizon after his win even though the equipment stayed the same.

Correct Whiz.No one was comparing Hillin to Gordon.....in fact I was CONTRASTING the two.Excact career opposites almost.1 win vs.60 something.

'Stamato Brothers'?Is that the Stavola Brothers or am I mistaken? That Bobby Allison drove for at the same time?

Speaking of ARCA What ever happened to Tim Steel, or was that ASA? Never the less, I never hear his name.

Man ,Buck,Tim Steele is a legend in my book.A serious racing accident, unfortunately sidelined TS a few years back.He has made a comeback of sorts recently...even had a little success.

But that is all the good news.To see Tim Steele now damn near makes you want to cry.Very easy to see his accident related injuries have impaired him to a tough degree.Poster be9ak7ts16 could update you a little better, but trust me,the post accident Steve Park was NOTHING compared to the condition Tim appeared in recently. After the initial accident he became addicted to pain killers pretty bad.Just not the Tim Steele he used to be.

:( :( :( In his prime just a few short years back,Tim was Jeff Gordon level good. And that's putting Jeff in pretty high regards. :( :( :(...(and it was ARCA by the way.)

You are absolutely and unequivocally correct, it was the Stavola Brothers !!! And to think I screwed up the name. I used to work for and get checks from these guys through thier construction company, driven by thier farm in Florida many times and knew several of thier associates personally, yet could not remember them well enough to use the correct name.
BAD BOY KENNETH !!!!!! Go to your room and stand in the corner !!!

But on a more serious note, thank you for pointing that out 97Forever. I appreciate it. I don't like to be wrong but I do appreciate it. To quote those who know;
" there are three things that happen when you get older. The first thing is you begin to lose your memory and I've forgotten the other two". One of them might be screwing up a name I should have recalled without error.

How true, how true B)

I like this boy, if Kyle Petty gets out of nascar in the next few years, I will probley pull for Kyle Busch. I can see some really good talent in this boy.
