Kyle Busch, RIP

RC’s measure of holding the 8 for Brexton is nice and all but JGR should sell the 18 to the Busch family. Ty didn’t want it and that number is tied to Kyle’s legacy. If Brexton wants the 18, it should be his, especially since he already uses it.

Give the 8 back to the Earnhardts and right the wrong of Teresa’s treatment of Dale Jr when he left DEI.

Yeah, I tend to agree. I was a Bobby Labonte fan and he drove the 18 for 11 years with Interstate Batteries. I loved that car.
I'm sure Bobby would agree to give it to the Busch family.

I did wonder which number Brexton would prefer. Kyle accomplished far more running in the #18, including both his titles. I expect once the initial shock has eased, his stint in the #8 will be overshadowed.

I honestly was thinking the same this morning as I woke up. Like Naitch said, 18 is what he's already using, and I could see that being what he wants to use if he wants to keep racing. Would be wonderful of Joe Gibbs to give them the number to use.

And still remember Ned Jarrett calling the ‘93 Daytona 500 with his son Dale winning in the Interstate Batteries 18.
Fun fact but out of the 100 or so drivers ever to have driven the 18 only 3 have won. All from JGR.
Dale Jarrett, Bobby Labonte and of course Kyle Busch.

This definitely feels like something a doctor should have caught, especially since Kyle was asking to see one after the Glen.

And probably before. Pneumonia can be very sneaky --- fortunately I caught mine before it really took hold. He may have just thought it was a cold and put off seeking medical evaluation. My husband was one of those.
 
Pneumonia is one of those things that can be really sneakily deadly. In most cases it's fairly routine, but on rare occasions it can creep up and take a toll on you. I imagine him continuing to race progressed the severity. I wonder if the doctor at The Glen didn't catch it or if Kyle knew and was just too stubborn to stay out of the racecar.
 
We learned in COVID that lots of stuff presents the same as severe stuff. There is no benefit of hindsight....and in reality, you can't run to the Dr. for every damn thing. He's gone, and it was something that is not exclusive to a race car driver. A reminder that these heroes are human. They die just like all of us will. RIP Rowdy, and thank you for all you did for Toyota. We ain't **** without you.
 
A lot of us are guilty at using the “It’ll pass” excuse. That’s literally me whenever I get sick. As I’m getting older, I’m starting to feel that maybe going to the doctor when I don’t feel well isn’t such a bad idea. Unfortunate situations like these should make us all rethink our health decisions. Not all at saying that he refused to look into his illness with the doctor. Just saying that what seems like a normal cold can quickly turn into something much more severe.

Especially if symptoms persist or rebound. Obviously, everybody’s healthcare and insurance situation is different, but there’s no shame in seeking out some or a different level of treatment. Seemingly benign conditions catch out otherwise healthy people all the time, so it’s good to stay vigilant.
 
Steve O'Donnell said on CW that on Tuesday Kyle was texting him saying that drivers over the age of 40 should be allowed to drive in the trucks full time and it's something they are considering.

Kyle was clearly looking forward to the future of driving along side his son in the truck series full time. Just very sad.

If a driver wants to run in the Truck series full time, then commit to running for Truck series points like the rest of the field. Cup drivers were limited because they have more experience. Drivers over 40 are the most experienced so an exception for them seems counterproductive,.
 
Just getting to watch a bit of the broadcast. Glad I’ve been working the past two days, cuz I don’t think I could handle it. What they’re saying is so true, Kyle probably never knew how people felt about him. It really is absolutely necessary to tell people how much they mean to do. The last thing anyone wants is to leave this world not knowing how much they meant to everyone.

Its why I always tell my friends and family how much they mean to me, every chance I get.
 
The outpouring of support and coming together of the entire nascar racing community is overwhelming and a beautiful thing to see even in the worst of circumstances.

The stories being shared by his fellow competitors, it's safe to say that Kyle Busch was a larger than life presence on the track, a dominating measuring stick of natural skill, and if you even got close to catching him you had a pretty good day, he made other's push themselves by the pace he set, he made other's get better, he made them go beyond their own limitations of what they thought they could do in a racecar by leading the way.
 
Sepsis sucks. My mom died of it.

I was in the hospital on April 1st with it. Called the ambulance cause I was shaking so bad, couldn't get warm. Couldn't talk, my roommate was in my ear reminding me to breathe. Dr's said when you get it you go downhill very fast.

I am very shocked a Dr didn't take a closer look at him unless Kyle just shooed off any in depth examinations?
 
Oh man, reading this thread from the top knowing the outcome was gut wrenching. I still cant believe it. This one hit fkn hard for me.

Hug your love ones.. and for God's sake visit your doctors when something is wrong, gentlemen. I know middle aged men (myself included) tend to avoid it, but its not worth it. I hope everyone who reads this is happy and healthy. Cherish the time you have here because we never know when it could be cut short.
 
I have to tell you. Chase Elliott is an absolute credit to this sport. His interview yesterday was just incredible. Blaney too....and Austin Dillon.....no words. The take away....we are so fortunate to have such great drivers in our series. Not that this is the biggest thing, but I think if/when Brexton wants to get back to driving, I believe that he will have immense support. While we have not heard from him yet, I think that Uncle Kurt will become a part of the story in an epic way. This world is weird sometimes, but sometimes it's pretty cool too.

Logano's interview hit me when he talked about Brexton and Hudson playing together in Dega. It is easy to forget that Kyle's kids will no longer be at those playgrounds or bus lots. It is also easy to forget that Samantha will no longer be part of the wive's club. After this initial jolt, the reality will become even more difficult. I lost both of my parents within the last 18 months....I thought things were better until Father's Day and Mother's Day.....your reality doesn't chance while grieving...but the context constantly does. Prayers for all.

100%....we talk so much today about being present.....but be present. Racing should teach us that.....you can't piss away tenths on a track, and you can't do that in life either.

I've been watching a lot of videos on social media that Samantha took of the family. I've been feeling immense sadness for Brexton. The one thing that puts me at ease is I think there's so many drivers in the garage that will mentor him along his journey and of course his uncle as well.
