Busch looking for a team that supports him
LOUDON, N.H. - Kyle Busch said he's looking for a competitive car to drive next year after he leaves Hendrick Motorsports but also one fielded by a team that will support him.
"Somebody looking out for Kyle Busch," he said. "Somebody that will back me.
"Just an organization that'll be to the point and tell you to your face. I don't need somebody or people that will be sort of two-faced. They'll be telling you something [like], 'Oh, you're great' ... in the front, and then go behind closed doors and talk to somebody else and say, 'Man, he's out of control. What are we doing?'"
Asked if he was referring to his current situation at Hendrick Motorsports, Busch said, "I didn't see it [happen], but I've heard it. I'd rather just find somebody that does stand behind me ... instead of hearing through the grapevine that there's different things being said."
Busch said he's been talking with "a few" teams, although Penske Racing is not currently one of them (brother Kurt suggested talks were in progress with Penske during a conference call with reporters on Tuesday).
The options include both Chevrolet and Dodge teams, Busch said, though he added that there has been some discussion with at least one Ford team as well.
His preferable timetable to make a decision in four or five weeks, he said. But Busch joked there's one team he still hasn't heard from.
"Hopefully we will soon - I'm looking forward to be able to hear from McLaren," he said.
McLaren, of course, is the top team in Formula One racing.
