Kyle Petty blasts Danicka's move to NASCAR

Yeh I agree with this also, we will see soon if she can really race.

Petty's last quote in that article.....

"If she's not successful the only impact she will have will be that she wasted two or three years in a car that a good driver could have been in and could have been developing."

Change the word 'she' to Kyle and 'two or three' to ten and the same thing could have been said about Kyle Petty. I like Kyle but he's turning into a bitter old man who really has a stick up his a$$ when it comes to the subject of Danica.

A lot of people have that same stick up their ass when it comes to Danica!:D

I'm more than willing to give Danica a shot. I hope she turns out to be a good stock car driver and soon will be racing in the Cup.

:beerbang:

Why not give her a shot? As you said, there have been plenty of people who have been given more than their fair chance and turned up shallow. Kyle is a perfect example of this.

Sometimes I like Kyle, but then there's other times I think he forgot to take his meds. He's really becoming the grumpy old man of NASCAR. Pretty soon you'll see him running through the in-field in his underwear yelling "Get off my track you damn kids!"

I had a flash of DW doing the very same thing. lol :D

I like Kyle, he's done a lot for kids. But if his last name wasn't Petty he wouldn't have lasted 3 years.

Very True.

I don't know why everyone is so quick to bash her, let her racing speak for itself.

Oh i agree too, but you know if she tanks it there will be all kinds of trash talking about her, more than there is now. I hope she does well, but honestly I don't giver much of a shot. Hope she proves me wrong!

8 wins in Spitcup. That's more than most drivers ever accomplish. It's hard enough just to get one win.

But, yep, KP had no talent. :sarcasm:

I think she'll do well. She adjusted well and did a solid job at ARCA Open Testing at Daytona.

It's not just Danica, it's any woman. Change the name to Alli Owens or Johanna Long (or another up-and-coming woman in racing) and they'll say the same thing.

Truth is, the car can't tell if a man or a woman is driving. I see no reason why a woman can't succeed. Just look at Ashley Force over in the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series... she sure has shut a lot of pieholes with her US Nationals victory and 2nd in the Countdown (would've won the championship had the Countdown not robbed her). What about Shirley Muldowney -- they said she couldn't succeed either.

Danica's driving abilities speak for themselves. She's got numerous top-five finishes in IndyCar and has won in IndyCar. Had it not been for some bad luck, she might have a few more wins.

In how many years? 27? Even a blind squirrel finds a nut occasionally.

How about that 7th place points finish in '87, or the back to back top-5 points finishes in '92 and '93?

Even if I disagree with KP (which, I do), it's disingenuous to say he has no talent or was a nobody. Several times, he's done more in NASCAR than most drivers even get close to.

Well I wish her well but these cars are a little more physical to drive that what the petit little Miss Patrick is used to.....

A couple of thoughts about this.

1. Sam Hornish dominated IRL and he's only enjoyed moderate success in NASCAR to this point. Dario Franchetti won the Indy 500 and was terrible in NASCAR. The only open wheel veteran to have any success is Juan Pablo Montoya, and it's taken him a few years to adjust to NASCAR. This rteally doesn't bode well for a driver who's spent the bulk of her career in IRL in the second tier of that series.

2. With everything I said in my first point, she's still good for NASCAR. She sells tickets which is what track owners like to see. Win, lose, or plow headfirst in to the inside wall, people are going to show up in huge numbers to see what's going to happen.

3. I don't know how interested she's going to be in becoming a trail blazer for women in NASCAR. Danica has shown she's great at promoting Danica.

Patrick will make her way into Nascar by use of same tools which got her into open wheel.

Her stats, media coverage and marketability speak volumes, IMO.

Ever hear of a couple of a couple of open wheel veterans named Andretti and Foyt?

lol, i had the same thoughts. <g> some kid named gordon did pretty good also. kasey kane and ryan newman also came from open wheel. granted they had dirt backgrounds but still open wheel. dan gurney and parnelli jones even dabbled in nascar without stinking up the field. <g>

If Franchitti had better cars to drive I belive he could have been doing as well, maybe better, as Montoya is by now. He should give it another shot in a Hendrick car and Danica should get naked in a magazine somewhere.

I agree with everything except Danica getting naked in a magazine. I think, and mind you that's only my opinion, it should be in my den.:D
