# Kyle takes hardest hit: It's no surprise Kyle Petty needed more time to recover after taking an 80-plus G-force hit that cracked two of his ribs at Bristol. According to some NASCAR officials, it was the hardest hit taken by a driver since data recorders were installed in the cars last year. Petty says he was extremely sore and credits the composite seat developed by owner Cal Wells and his driver, Ricky Craven, for lessening the blow.(Sporting News)(3-31-2003)

:EEEEK: OH MY!! I was guessing 10 G's!! Boy was I ever wrong!!! I bet he is counting his lucky starts right now!!! Gald he is ok but MAN!! I hope he sits out this week, we don't want another Sterlin Marlin type of deal this time it could be much worse!!

sorry Pettyfan, looks like we were posting at the same time. I'll get mine deleted if possible. That is amazing though. The crashes that look the worst seem to be the best for the driver.

80-g's wow. I know it was just for milliseconds but an apples to oranges compasion. A modern fighter jet can achieve about 10-g without the wings falling off, but the average pilot would be unconscious around 5-g.

Seems I recall last year the hardest recorded hit was around 72 G's. Can't remember for sure but I think that was at Richmond. Shows that the short tracks can generate a lot of force, it ain't all about speed.

Probably Derrick Copes hit when his throttle hung.

I was going to say Joe Nemecheck when he smacked the outside wall at one of the night races

I was goign to guess Sterlings wreck at Kansas or Dericks crash!! I think Dericks is the best chance, his roof got riped almost all the way off
