LA SALLE, IL – July 10, 2008 – A late-afternoon thunderstorm swamped La Salle Speedway on Thursday, forcing the cancellation of the evening’s scheduled UMP DIRTcar Summer Nationals event at the quarter-mile oval.

No makeup date was immediately announced for the 40-lap, $6,000-to-win race.

The rainout was the sixth of the 2008 UMP DIRTcar Summer Nationals. A seventh event, on June 21 at I-55 Raceway in Pevely, Mo., was canceled because the access road to the track was blocked by floodwaters.

Two points events remain on the month-long tour – on Friday night (July 11) at Brownstown (Ind.) Speedway and Saturday night (July 12) at Oakshade Raceway in Wauseon, Ohio. Both races will pay $10,000 to win.

Defending Summer Nationals champion Dennis Erb Jr. of Carpentersville, Ill., leads the points standings by a slim 19-point margin (1,378-1,359) over Brian Shirley of Chatham, Ill.
