Andy Lally, and not Bobby Labonte, will drive the No. 71 Chevrolet for TRG Motorsports in the Sprint Cup race this weekend in New Hampshire.
.
Despite rumors that Labonte and TRG have parted ways, owner Kevin Buckler said that wasn’t the case. Labonte, the 2000 Cup champion, finished 23rd at Sonoma on Sunday and is 31st in the point standings.

“We’re still trying to work through everything,” Buckler said.

Lally made his Sprint Cup debut at Watkins Glen last year. He qualified 15th and finished 27th. He ran 13 truck races and three Nationwide Series events. His best NASCAR finish was 10th at Watkins Glen in the 2007 Nationwide race.

Lally, 35, has won three Grand-Am Rolex Series titles and also competing in the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge. Lally is a six-year TRG veteran.

AND: Bobby Labonte plans to part ways with TRG Motorsports, sources said Tuesday. An announcement is expected Wednesday that Labonte has left the team. Labonte possibly could end up in the #7 Robby Gordon Motorsports Toyota and run the full race this weekend at New Hampshire. The team and crew chief Doug Randolph parted ways a few weeks ago.

I don't blame him for wanting out. They started out decent together, but their team now resembles a start and park team.

NSSN is also reporting that he'll be driving the No. 7 Robby Gordon Motorsports this weekend at Louden.

Bobby Labonte to Drive for Robby Gordon Motorsports at Loudon: Robby Gordon Motorsports will put 2000 NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Bobby Labonte behind the wheel of the #7 Toyota at New Hampshire Motor Speedway for the Lenox Industrial Tools 301 this weekend in a current one-race deal. "When we found out that Bobby was available to drive for us, we jumped at it," said team owner Robby Gordon. "To have a past champion driving your car is a good opportunity. I think we can learn from him this weekend and it will help our program moving forward." Robby Gordon Motorsports finished second in last weekend's race at the Infineon Raceway. "I can't thank Robby and his folks enough for this opportunity," said Labonte. "We're going to New Hampshire with the goal of having another solid run for his team. They had a great finish at Sonoma and have some momentum right now. I'm just thankful for the opportunity and hope to get another solid finish for his team." Labonte will be making his first start for Robby Gordon Motorsports and plans on running the full race this Sunday.(Robby Gordon Motorsports)(6-23-2010)

Man, whatever it takes. I would like very much to see Bobby in a good ride. Absolutley.

A Statement from Bobby Labonte

ARCHDALE, N.C. (June 21, 2010) - Bobby Labonte, the 1991 NASCAR Nationwide and the 2000 NASCAR Sprint Cup champion, has terminated his contract with TRG Motorsports effective immediately.

Labonte, a 21-time winner in the Sprint Cup Series, is currently exploring opportunities for the remainder of this season in the Sprint Cup Series as well as the NASCAR Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series.

"I want to be in a position to win races and be competitive," said Labonte. "I have worked as hard as possible to give my best at the track so far this season. I'm now looking to move on and get back into a position to win races."

Labonte is the only driver to have won championships in two of NASCAR's highest levels.

Phoenix Racing owner James Finch confirmed on Wednesday that Labonte will run the No. 09 Chevrolet next weekend in Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway.

“We’re going to run several,” Finch said. “We’d like to run as many as we can to get sponsorship.”

Finch will have Hendrick power for the race and says “our speedway program is pretty good."

Labonte will also drive for the team at Chicagoland Speedway the following week.

"Any driver wants the chance to win at Daytona," Labonte said. "It's awesome that James has given me this opportunity and also the chance to compete at Chicagoland. I'm looking forward to these two races and making my 600th start at Daytona during the Coke Zero 400."

I really like Bobby, but has he forgotten Greg Biffle? Maybe Bobby doesn't think that the truck series is part of NASCAR's highest levels. In that case, let's just say that Bobby is the only one to win titles in the Cup series and one of the other lower series, Winston Cup and Busch Grand National.

Anyone can win at the RP tracks......since he will have hendrick power at Chicago....that will be put up or shut up. If he gets a top 15 i'll shut up.:D

Boy, this is the best news I have heard in ages!

I hope that Bobby can find decent ride. He does have his PCP which makes him attractive to a few teams

Red Bull annouces once again that Reed Sorensen is on a three race deal. BL has a deal for three races with two teams. Hmmmmmmmm.

They already announced that they will run the full race at NHMS with Bobby

We'll, Robby Gordon Motorsports doesn't exactly equal a good ride. I know he finished 2nd last week, but Sears Point is his his bread and butter track. Monster along with Robby put a lot of effort into the Road courses so it should be no surprise he finished so well.

I really like Bobby Labonte a lot. I hate he lost his way when he left the Gibbs operation for the watered down Petty Cup ride. I wished he could find himself in the position like Elliott did at Evernham and Martin has at Hendrick.
I guess like Boris Said is a hired gun at the Road courses, Bobby will be a hired gun on the New England oval. Good luck to Bobby, a top 20 could be a great possibility and a great accomplishment for Gordons team.

As for the Finch ride with Hendrick engines, look out for Labonte in the 09 car. Remember what Kez did at 'dega in the Finch ride!

I'm happy that Bobby is out of the #71 because you know he hated to S&P. I can see that team going under soon without Bobby because now they will have no one to draw any sponsor. However Bobby won't do any better in the 09 car I don't think because it's just leaving one clunker for another.

Did the 7 crash in practice?????-_-

Yep.

Robby Gordon said he jumped at the chance to get Labonte for the race. Something to the effect of hoping Lobonte can help them with finding what they are doing wrong with their cars.

Don't see how it helps much when he's showing them what NOT to do.
