•Lally the only rookie left: #71-Andy Lally, unless something unforeseen occurs, will be the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Sunoco Rookie of the Year. Lally, a three-time GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series champion, is the only freshman left competing for the award since #92-Brian Keselowski and #50-T.J. Bell failed to meet the minimum competition requirements. Lally, a native of Northport, N.Y. on Long Island, has been able to expand his expertise in oval track racing without the additional pressure of a multiple driver rookie competition. He finished 25th in Saturday's IRWIN Tools Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway, his fifth consecutive run in the top 30. More importantly, the 36-year-old Lally has been able to finish 20 of his 21 starts to keep Kevin Buckler's TRG Motorsports organization among the top 35 in the owners championship standings, and currently guarantee the team a starting position.(NASCAR)(8-31-2011)

So will there ever be a battle for NASCAR Rookie of the Year again??????

SURE! Next year will be Miss Thang against Austin Dillon in N'wide. That will be fun to watch, eh?

As far as CUP, Danica will be a rookie in 2013 and Austin may very well be driving the 3 car for RCR that same year.

It could be 2 straight years of head-to-head rookie competition. I'll put my money on Dillon!

How do you follow up Kevin Conway's rookie of the year? Andy Lally! No wonder attendance is down.

If you knew the slightest bit about Andy Lally, you'd know that Conway is nowhere close to the racer Andy is. Andy is the real deal. Not only that, Andy is one of the nicest people I've ever met. Andy is doing the best he can without the top of the line equipment like "a Joey Logano-type driver" walked into. There's nothing more Andy would like to do than to be performing better in Sprint Cup.

Okay maybe Andy Lally has more talent than Kevin Conway. But if he was so good, why is he in such a backmarker of a team? (I know the answer, he has driven for TRG in other capacities) How can anyone get excited about a rookie who can hardly finish on the lead lap, let alone a top 10 or 20 finish. Two years in a row there has not even been the slighted competition for rookie of the year. The equipment TRG buys is from RCR so its not like he is driving total junk. He should have, just like Conway, taken a year or two to develop in the Nationwide or Truck series rather than jump feet first into the Cup series.

I can't argue with that part, except conway benefiting from anything. Andy has improved to mid 20's finishes from high 30's, but he surely would have benefited from some NW experience. RoTY never really meant much anyway.

What I do like about Andy is that he isn't causing wrecks. A team can make money being a back marker in Sprint Cup, and Andy has them in the top 35. I would like to see what happens with the team next year. They earned $2.1 million so far, and I think they get a piece of the TV money for being top 35.

I could applaud Andy as RoTY.

Conway never intended to be competitive. He was just a rolling billboard for Extenze.

Not sure where they're getting the cars from now since he's drivng a Ford. Definitely not RCR. ;)

Right, because Joey Logano lit **** up in his rookie year :sarcasm:

Andy Lally would win races in a Gibbs or Roush car.

...even when it doesn't rain. :D
Bowyer, Stewart, and Lally would be about even in the rain I think....But Lally would have the least equipment wear probably. Bowyer and Stewart would be dirt tracking, Lally would just pull the ford logo off and put a porsche symbol there and pretend it's a GT car.
