Guess you missed all the follow-ups about her "generosity" with the free Pontiacs, huh?

She's a sham and a fraud whose racist and sexist agenda would be considered intolerable from the mouth of a white male.

But opinions vary...

Oprah didn't "Give" anyone a car. They were donated by a car dealership. They were given away on her show, but its not like she paid for them.

And she didn't pay the donation taxes that the poor souls she gave the cars too couldn't afford so they had to sell them.

The recipients also had to pay all taxes. I think that stuck them with around $14,000 each when you factor in the mandatory 50% tax on TV show winnings. These were people who by their own admission could not afford a $7000 car. Wow, some favor she did them.

A sham???? That woman has had more obsticals to overcome in her life than most ever will! SHE DID make a deal with Pontiac, who donated the cars, but she also arranged for tax, title, registration and delivery to be paid for. Get a dang life!

Its funny kat, evidently the deal fell through, and those people had to sell their cars to pay the taxes.

BTW, I got a life, and I love it , how bout you?

According to dozens of wire reports, countless newspaper articles, and several magazine articles, this is not what happened. Of course, it wasn't front page news when it came out...they made sure it got buried on page twelve.

I will give her credit for her entrepreneurial (sp?) spirit, ability to capitalize on a previously untapped market, and relentless pursuit of a dollar. beyond that, my opinion remains unchanged. Some of us recall when she was a TV weatherperson in Tennessee.

As to obstacles, I'll put what I am currently facing against anything she has ever been through. Gladly trade places with her in fact.

And I do have a life, without the need to vicariously borrow one from a TV personality. Just because I happen not to agree with you does not automatically make me wrong...in fact, that entire mentality reeks of Oprahism at its finest.

Oprah Winfrey had NOTHING to do with the idea or promotion of the publicity stunt. It was all conducted by Pontiac Motor Division of General Motors to introduce the new line of Pontiac G6 sedans.

Oprah was approached by the Pontiac Motor Division of General Motors. Other than having a television show, Oprah did not go to Pontiac, they came to her. This was a publicity scheme devised more than eight months previous by Pontiac Motor Division.
Pontiac developed the scheme in its entirety and the only role Oprah Winfrey had was letting Pontiac use her show as the medium to introduce the new line of Pontiac Model G6 sedan.
Once Pontiac gave the cars away, they let the winners pick car color and how they wanted them equipted. Pontiac Motor Division even paid the sales tax on the vehicles.

The cars were given to the audience based on three possiblilities.
First, the winner could pay the tax.
Second, the winner could accept the car, sell it, and keep the balance after paying the taxes owed.
Third, the winner could refuse the car.

These cars had a window sticker price of $28,500.00.
Since the Pontiac G6 sedans were a prize and outright gift, some of the recipients might have been required to pay as much as $7000 in income taxes, a figure based on the window price of the vehicle and the recipients current income.

Since Oprah had no part in the plan devised by General Motors and Pontiac, why is she the "bad guy" because her audience is required to pay taxes on a free car ??? It had nothing to do with Oprah other than Pontiac Motor Division used the popularity of her show to give away 276 cars.

To those who feel the car deal is wrong and blame Oprah for whatever shortcoming they might microscopically find, it is because of one of two reasons. First, those who found fault with Oprah did not take the time to gather the correct facts, or secondly, perhaps the real problem is Oprah Winfrey, a black woman who is rich, popular, respected, admired, and who is making the best of the American dream.

Then why is all you hear is "Oprah gave her audience new cars." and not "Pontiac just used Oprah to give away some cars."?

Thank you whizzer for making my point so eloquently.

She had not one thing to do with this so called "great act of humanitarianism" except provide an audience of needy people for Pontiac to prey upon, then sit back and accept the accolades.

A sham and a fraud, exactly what several of us called her. Plain and simple.

Whata is so difficult about this?

And correct me if I am wrong, but is it not you who keeps pointing out the race factor here? I don't think I mentioned it beyond pointing out that she IS a racist and sexist and that should a white male say the things she says, he would be crucified. So who is it that seems to be hung up on the lady's race? Her supporters, or her detractors?

Shoe sizing guides may be found to your left. If it fits, wear it.

The media gave Oprah credit for the stunt by stating "Oprah gives away new cars", an accurate description of the event. On the Oprah Winfrey Show, in front of 30 million international viewers, she handed out the envelopes and packages that contained the keys to the new Pontiac G6 sedans while acknowledging Pontiac donated the cars.
If this makes Oprah Winfrey a "sham and a fake", the eyes of the beholder are blinded by something other than the facts. Sometimes people must read beyond the headlines. For there are none so blind as those who do not see with their eyes wide open.

Oprah Winfrey is a woman who deserves credit for consistantly trying to help less fortunate people when, such as in this case, she could have taken no stand at all by letting Pontiac give the cars to anyone.

Oprah winfrey is a woman who donates millions in personal monies and resources to needy people throughout the world. It becomes a great injustice to a person as caring and strong as Ms. Winfrey when someone tries to belittle and condemn her by offering misleading, misrepresenting and otherwise attempting to denigrate her entire lifetime of charity through the use of a single inaccurate depiction of a news article, there is generally an underlying reason.

It certainly must make some of the readers wonder what the real motive was behind the avatar although it is improbable anyone with marginal intelligence would have doubts.

 Well said, Whizzer. If anyone is a sham and a fraud, it is Martha Stewart. But we all know where she's at right now.. :D

So enlighten us marginally intelligent masses, Kreskin. Read my mind. We breathlessly await your amazing powers of divining.

Tell us why. We're all stpuid compared to you anyway, so just go right ahead Einstein...amaze us dullards with your blazing intellect.

Let's see if you know a damn thing about what you're talking about once and for all.

I dare ya.

To be as "wise and smart" as you are, you sure take the messages on this board to the max, don't ya?

EatMore Possum, the explanation has been offered no less than two times.

If there is a probelm in your deciphering the content, further disussion is useless and thoughts expressed in a previous post would appear to be accurate.
