Got my 1st deer today. It was about a 50 pound doe (thats going to be some good eatin')

I was in the tree stand and my step-dad was on the ground. well 3 deer just poped up. so i picked the gun up and shot the 1st one i got a shot at.

then the orther 2 just stood there. and my step dad got him one. could have got all 3 just did not want to tag out the 1st day.

shot her at about 45 yeards and she ran 35 yeards, she was at a angel when i shot so the bullet went through the ribs and out the sholder. (gut shot :( ) but the good thing was it was a quick kill.

Way to go Lappy. How many tags do you get in Ky? Things are a little different in the woods as compared to the shooting range aren't they.

Congrats Lappy! Looks like all the practice payed off.:beerchug:

Just remember to be careful out there, we wouldn't want anything bad happening to you.

Congrats on yer first Lappy!

Did ya'll have any kind of "initiation" for first timers? We always did.

NVRA,

At one time wasn't SC unlimited for residents? Seems I recall that from about 20 years ago when I used to hunt some there.

just curious how is the deer suppose to win? :satisfied

HS,
Lower half of State is fairly much open and has the longest season in the Nation, Upper half of State, with limits and special tags, I belive is around 12-15. Large amount of Deer here, but open land is hard to come by. Need to be in a Hunt Club which means forking out BIG $$$$.

Ghettozoe03,
The Deer win most of the time. Ask a veteran hunter how many times they have been skunked in the woods.

Good job Lap3!! Do you make any jerky or sausage out of it? That's about the only way I like deer. It's not bad cut into chunks, breaded and deep fried. Dang, now I'm getting hungry.:p

Thanks Guys.

In Ky you get 2 tags (Doe and Buck) but exter doe tags are $10. so i am saving my last tag for a buck and going to get a new doe tag this week.

i might make some jerky out of mine.

i am getting the hide fixed up and am going to keep it.

Zoe the deer wins when you miss, dont see one, or cant find it.

#84 i like the woods better then the range :p

Am I the only one that thinks hunting is wrong?

It was fine when you had to hunt to get your food but to kill a perfect animal just for game is wrong. That deer was trying to live a normal life just like all of us humans. When the snipers where out killing everyone was upset and angry. hunting is just about the same thing the snipers did killing an innocent life just for fun.
In these days and ages we don't have to hunt to get food its already there for us in stores. Thos animals in stores are grown for food. Animals in the wild are just trying to live.

I am not attacking you Lappy!! Your a pretty cool guy!! Its just that IMO hunting is WRONG!!

ok theres my $.02 worth. I was wating for someone eles to make a post like this but no one did. Now I can't be the only one here who thinks that way!!

I understand what you are saying. but some meat you cant go to town and get. you might in some places but we cant here. and i olny kill what i will eat.

As long as you eat it all....and use the bones in something like an artwork....it would be fine.....i have some trouble looking at the picture too.... But just remember to be nice to animals .... :D

Hunting is nesscary....especially for deer around in this area, they have little natrual predators left so they reproduce like crazy while we tear down there little avaible habiatat every day. If we don't control there pop. overpopulation would be phased in and with only so much food there would be a huge kill off. Hunting keeps a steady population to ensure the species future.

Congrats Lappy, itsn't it an awsome thrill?

:D

We have controlled hunts here...its getting to the point where the limit of kills are getting suspended.

I learned a long time ago not to try to change an anit-hunters mind and it's a waste of time arguing with them. Sportsmen (Hunters and Fishermen) put the majority of the money into the system that pays for the conservation of wildlife, the average citizen does very little to ensure that wildlife has a habitat and are kept in good health. The store animals that you talk about are not treated nearly as humane as wild game. Stock animals are injected and or fed chemicals that make them more appealing to the average consumer. Wild game is organic.
Look at the Turkey, which you'll probalitiy be having real soon. The domestic Turkey has been modified and bred to produce a large amount of breast meat, to the point that they no longer have the ability to fly. They spend thier entire life, less than a year, in a pen being fed growth supplements under controlled conditions, just so they can be labeled Butterball. The wild Turkey lives for several years in the wild at the bottom of the food chain with everything out in the woods out to get them, but they survive. They can run faster than a man, can fly with the best and have an eye sight like an eagle. Very little breast meat and a big wild Turkey is normally less then 20 lbs. The wild Turkey was almost extinct a few years ago, due to poor management, but the Hunters have helped restore them to every state in
the union.
Off the soap box now, but lets just say to each thier own.

Nice post NVRA...

I love it when people from PETA and other anti-hunters start whinning......then they walk off in their leather shoes, get in their cars with leather enterior, ect, ect :D

yea i have done research reports on PETA and other organization.....they are very bad.....

If the remains are all used up then ok i don't see any problem. But not all people do that, and that is very wrong in my book even if it is to controll population. You don't see the government call an open season on New York or japan because of over crowdness now do we!!

yes it is wrong but you have to control it somehow..... if we did not it would be over populated.....it is like i don't like animal experimentation because of what i found out what they do to animals in my paper....but there are some good comapanies out there that abide by the law but other won't... but from these experiments they find cures and that is good...so it is a 2 way street
