Larry Rice loses battle with cancer

Larry Rice, co-rookie of the Indy 500 in 1978, died today (5/20/09) after a bout with cancer.
Rice went in to the announcing booth after his racing career on ESPN's Thursday Night Thunder. He coined the phrase 'tommy tip over' when a car would turn over slowly with minimal damage.
Rice had a successful career in Sprints, Midgets, and Indy cars.
He had beaten cancer in 2000, but this recent was a more aggresive kind.

Former open wheel driver Larry Rice has passed away. Many may know Larry from his days of calling the Thursday Night Thunder races on ESPN. He's also the father of Indy 500 champ Buddy Rice, who elected not to race this year. Guess we know why. Robin Miller wrote a good piece on him.
