Let's say goodby to Winston and RJR in style! POST your observations and comments on the race!

GREEN, GREEN, GREEN!

Well, one thing for sure about the new Homestead, there haven't been very many laps at the beginning of the races before the first wreck.

Ryan Newman ends the season the way he started it, wrecked in Florida.

The wreck scared me. Thought Kevin was done for the year. But has made a great comeback.

Thank goodness theres the NFL to keep me company, this race is as boring as sh1t.

Been one of the better races of the year. A lot of passing and a lot of racing. What more do you want.

Sorry to rant but If the track officials call this progressive banking and side-by-side racing, then theyve gotta be drunk off their asses. It still has the characteristics of the old track, the leader is leading by 10 seconds over 2nd place and it's really Las Vegas except it's longer.

However, this problem could be alleviated for me if an RCR car wins. :D

Even more amazing, Larry Foyt could actually finish the entire race.

Congratulations to Bobby Labonte~winner of the last Winston Cup race ever! So sad that Bill had to have a tire blow out, but at least it was on the last lap and was able to save if for an 8th place finish!

Congratulations to Jimmie Johnson for his 2nd place finish in the Winston Cup Championship !!!

I gotta question? who won the first winston cup race?
I believe that would be the 1972 Riverside race won by Richard Petty.

Pretty sure it was the Winston Cup starting with 1972.

Homestead is now a great track and we will continue to see even better races there. Congratulations to Bobby and sympathy for Bill. Way to go Terry for finishing in the top 10 in points.

Bonehead move of the day was by "numbskull" early on. Even a rookie should know better at that stage of a race on a newly configured and paved track.

DAMN !!! Where is Hardscrabble ??????????

I had to look this up so please forgive an old man for trying to extract the details.

Winston became associated with NASCAR in 1971.

A point fund total of $100,000 was broken into three segments with $25,000 going to the top ten drivers in points after the Charlotte race on Memorial Day, $25,000 the second segment given after the Southern 500 on Labor Day and the balance, $50,000, given to the top twenty drivers at the end of the season.

The first race sponsored by Winston, and a part of the newly started Winston Cup Series in 1971, was the "Winston 500", held at Talledega, AL., and won by Donnie Allison.

The first race run as a part of the newly formed Winston Cup Series, was held at Riverside Raceway in January of 1971. It was won by Ray Elder of Caruthers, California.
