Leap Test

My middle daughter is in the 4th grade. She had to pass the leap test in order to move on to the 5th grade, she is very smart but she sometimes has a bad attitude and doesn't do real well in school. My wife and I have been real worried about this, she brought a paper home today that says (the way I read it) that she passed. I am very proud of her and I wanted to share this with ya'll. Especially with the bad news in Texas with the children a little good news is always welcomed. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

That's awesome that your daughter passed Bowtie! Tell her Way To Go for me!
I also have a daughter going into the 5th grade! I think the bad attitude thing just comes with this age.

Congrats to your little girl. I know a lot has changed since I went to school. But I have to ask. What in the world is a leap test? :D

G, it is a test given by the state to see if the students are taught well. It is a nerve racking test for the students as well as the teachers. The teachers hate as much as the students. I am not sure if any other states give this test or not. Maybe only here in La.

Yeah G, The student can pass the 4th grade with straight A's and fail the leap test and not go to 5th grade. Kinda sucks for the kids. I have heard of that around here. I think if they are going to do that they need to give the test first and if they pass they should go to the 5th grade and if they fail then go to 4th grade.

Here in Texas it isn't called the leap test, but we do have one of those tests, the TAKS test. TAKS (Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills test) is taken in the 3rd grade here. It has the same results as your leap test. The only thing is, here in Texas the test gets harder and you have to take it two more times throughout your school career, I believe 7th grade and 10th grade. And, yes, it puts just as much stress on the teachers as it does the students.

they take it 3 time in La. also 4th, 8th, and 12th grades I believe.

Congrats to your daughter!!!!! :bounce: :bounce:

Wealso have one of these tests in Wisconsin. I don't remember wht it's called but the kids take it in 6th grade and as a junior in high school.

We had them here when I was in school, but I would be mildly surprised if they still do them. The emphasis here seems to be on making the kids feel good regardless of how dumb they really are. I remember when learning was the goal of schools, but I digress. Not saying the tests are good or bad, just an observation of the dumbing down of our kids.

WoW never heard of it. But I can see where it would be a bummer for the kids. Sounds like a good waste of time and money. But I am glad she made it. :bounce:

'84 was that back when ya'll were National Champs? I know ya'll and Neville played for the state championship all the years I was in HS. I am a proud Rebel '86.

22, its a La. thing. We also have to take the Iowa test. I think all grades have to take it.

Yeah Tabasco, I played varsity football 3 years, we went 41-3 in those three years. State Champs in '82, lost in playoffs in '83, lost State Championship to Neville in '84. Man those were the days. Nothing like being fifteen years old and playing in the Super Dome.

Chick and Charlie were some good coaches. What year did Ruston win the National Champ.?

Did Ruston win a National Champ. in the 80's? I was thinking some team in district 3AAAA won while I was in school. I don't think it was Neville. I miss the ole 2-AAAAA district. I hated to see Ruston leave.
